Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region. Acts 13:48-49
Things didn't end well after Paul's second sermon a week later. That is, they didn't end well for the Jewish leaders who contradicted what he said and blasphemed the name of Jesus.
At that point, Paul and Barnabas publicly declared their intention to continue preaching the Good News to the Gentiles. That news, coupled with the prophetic words of Isaiah 49:6, provoked an immediate and strong response from their non-Jewish listeners.
For the remainder of the book of Acts, Luke repeatedly shows this same pattern of Jewish rejection of-and Gentile reception of--the message of salvation in Jesus Christ. That good news is life-giving here and now, and life-giving for all eternity. Real life, indeed!
When they receive God's great gifts, Christians don't put them down unopened. Instead, they unwrap them gladly because they trust God and honor His Word. And then they invite others to do the same.
Prayer: Lord, I am so blessed. Give me boldness to tell others how I trust You, and boldness to invite them to consider the scriptures as Your Word.
