Trusting in The Rock

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:5-8 NIV

Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works
which thou hast done, and thy thoughts
which are to us-ward:
they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee:
if I would declare and speak of them,
they are more than can be numbered.

Weekly Meditation

Grow up in Him!

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Ephesians 4:11-16 ESV

The following is an old song I thought of upon seeing the title chosen for this thread (author/source=unknown).

"I go to the Rock of my salvation,
I go to the Stone that the builders rejected,
I go to the Mountain, & the Mountain stands by me.
When all around me is sinking sand,
On Christ that solid rock I stand.
When I need a shelter,
When I need a friend,
I go to the Rock.

:moon: Jesus rocks & I roll with Him. :-)

It is so important to separate faith from emotions. When I am challenged by a memory from my past or a thought regarding a weakness in my nature (a character defect), and I feel myself sliding into feeling blue and "less than" over the issue, I have a store of memorized "Bible Bullets" that I can use to shoot down the negative attitude; a store that has been amassed through several years of Bible study and sitting at the feet of gualified preachers.

For me, attempting to divert my attention by turning on TV or a radio or picking up a book or magazine doesn't work because all the while I'm trying to pay attention to the TV or whatever reading material I've picked up, the negative thoughts are swirling around in the back of my mind and blocking my enjoyment of the diversion.

For relief, I have to decide to exercise my faith, ask Jesus to help, and go to His Word for ammunition for the battle. One of my favorite Bible Bullets is 2 Cor 10:5c, "....we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
For me that verse has been a knockout punch many, many times.

Song that helps me & may you

"You've got to accent-u-ate the possitive,
e-lim-in-ate the negative,
latch on to the affirmative, &
don't let the bad guy in"
