Prov 28:9; He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.
It's sometimes easy note that even 'non-Christians' pray sometimes. Perhaps God hears the prayers of the ignorant. But those who deliberately disobey God...
even their prayers are an "abomination" to God. There are people who call themselves Christians, but they don't really live like it, I wonder if God think's those
prayers are an abomination also?
The word "prayer" is not mentioned in the first seven books of the Bible. The first time it's mentioned in 2 Samuel, chapter 7.
2Chron 7:14; and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
This is a popular verse, frequently quoted by Christians. It says here, if they turn from their wicked ways... "then" I will hear from heaven. It seems if they continue in their wickedness, God won't even hear their prayers.
Matt 23:14; ["Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.]
Mark 12:40; who devour widows' houses, and for appearance's sake offer long prayers; these will receive greater condemnation."
Luke 20:47; who devour widows' houses, and for appearance's sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."
Some people are unaware, that by making "pretense prayers".. making a good religious/pious showing around other people, they will receive a "greater" condemnation. Greater than what?
Another frequently quoted verses is for married men.. ( yes, I guess that includes me )
1Pet 3:7; You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
I guess I always pictured the prayer channel being like the internet, you type it, and immediately about a second later God sees it. But it seems some things can hinder prayers. Treating your wife badly is one of those things.
It seems even God has limited patience for pretend believers.
Isa 1:12; "When you come to appear before Me, Who requires of you this trampling of My courts?
Isa 1:13; "Bring your worthless offerings no longer, Incense is an abomination to Me. New moon and sabbath, the calling of assemblies—I cannot endure iniquity and the solemn assembly.
Isa 1:14; "I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts, They have become a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing them.
Isa 1:15; "So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.
Isa 1:16; "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil,
Isa 1:17; Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow.
There are some situations where God will not listen to peoples prayers, even those who say they know Him. This thread isn't about orphans and widows ( at least not directly ).
But Isaiah 1:17; is much like what James says in James 1:27;
