How sweet are Your words to my taste, [Sweeter] than honey to my mouth! Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Psalm 119:103-104 NKJV
How hard is it to find a trustworthy news source these days? Many outlets seem to favor falsehood over facts, politics ahead of people, and rage before relationships. Truth has become a fungible commodity, replaceable with whatever trends sweep the nation. But God’s truth never changes. If we don’t want to lose our way, we must filter everything we hear and read through His Word.
Most translations of Psalm 119:103 speak of God’s words being sweeter than honey. The idea of scripture tasting better than our favorite home-cooked meal resonates—the simple comfort, the associations with good times, the people we’ve broken bread with—but too often we miss out on those connections. We see reading our Bibles as duty or covering our bases, instead of the way to cultivate our relationship with the living God who loves us dearly.
When we settle for the culture’s junk food, we feed unhealthy thoughts, resulting in anxiety, frustration, and a growing sense of division from our neighbors. Comfort food settles our souls; God’s Word will do the same when we value it as our true compass and anchor.
Prayer: Lord, Your Word is eternal, unchanging, true, and good-just like You. Ground me in Your truth, grant me discernment, and give me a growing hunger to know You more.
