Well obviously, anyone who hasn't accepted Jesus has unforgiven sin.
But I'm not really talking about unbelievers here, I'm talking about Christians.
Wait a minute, aren't all my sins already forgiven? That's why this thread is created.
Well according to Peter, you have to repent in order to be forgiven.
Acts 2:38; Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 3:19; "Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;
1. No repentance... no forgiveness.
Jesus said we have to forgive others, in order to be forgiven.
Matt 6:14; "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Matt 6:15; "But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
Matt 18:21; Then Peter came and said to Him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?"
Matt 18:22; Jesus *said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
2. No forgiveness for others, no forgiveness for you.
Jesus said blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
Matt 12:31; "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.
Matt 12:32; "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
Mark 3:29; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"—
Mark 3:30; because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."
Some people incorrectly say that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is rejecting Jesus, but no Jesus says you can speak against Him and still be forgiven.
Think about it, many people reject Jesus on the first or second invitation, and then later get saved. If rejecting Jesus on the first try was unforgiveable,
then these people could never get saved. But no, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is saying something done by God, is being done by Satan.
3. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit means no forgiveness ( at least for that sin ).
The Bible says when we sin again ( after being saved ), we need to ask for forgiveness again. Everytime you sin.
Luke 11:2; And He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
Luke 11:3; 'Give us each day our daily bread.
Luke 11:4; 'And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.'
1Jn_1:9; If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
4. No confession and asking of forgiveness - no forgiveness.
Continuing in willful sin. People hate this verse, but it's in the Bible.
Heb 10:26; For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Heb_12:15; See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;
Matt 7:23; "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
I'm not saying you have to be perfect, I'm not saying you aren't allowed to stumble, but you cannot continue in a willfully sinful lifestyle.
This is very similar to repentance. The difference is, some people repent and then go back to the same sin over and over again.
5. Continued willful sin = no forgiveness.
