Lift up your spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Let me hear you say, "I will give you victory!" Psalm 35:3 NLT
Sometimes the Bible gives you a front-row seat to the prayer life of others. What was on their heart? How did they approach God? Were their prayers honest or filled with words that just sounded like prayer? You’ll find prayers throughout the Bible, but the book of Psalms contains more prayers than other books of the Bible.
The best prayers are ones where the individual praying comes to the place where they take heart. It’s a turning point that takes them from the dark place that led them to prayer to a glimpse of God’s goodness that then leads them to a place of worship.
Prayer can be your best reminder to take encouragement in the Lord. Psalm 35 is a deeply honest prayer from David, and apart from the angst, you discover that the one praying wanted a reassured soul. That reassurance would need to come from God. The reassurance would need to be that he would not be left to face his struggle alone.
You see, in order to take heart you will need to vacate a part of your heart that was crushed, bruised, and burdened. It’s a great reason to tell past hurt too move on.
Prayer: Be my deliverer, Father. Take me from the pain I have suffered. Give me peace, hope, and help. I want to remember that You are always worthy of my trust.
