and he prayed, "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven above or on the earth below. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion. 1 Kings 8:23 NLT
If you really want to amp up your own personal encouragement, then it may be time to use your mind to remember. Solomon was the wisest human king this world ever knew. God helped him, and this king accepted God’s help. Solomon took materials assembled by his father, David, and had a temple made to honor God. In his prayer, Solomon made sure he spent time remembering. The glory days the king remembered were not about the things he excelled at but the good things God had done, the good God He is, and the many reasons to worship the God who rescues.
When you focus on God, the cobwebs of concern get brushed away, the soot of selfishness is removed, and the pot of pride is no longer left to simmer. You can take heart as you remember those times when God’s encouragements populated the places in your life that before had been storing junk.
Prayer: Father, I’m not always aware that I stand in the way of Your encouragement. I can think I know so much that You aren’t my first call but a useful resource for on-call services. I need to remember—You are more.
