Psalm 37 v 7 "Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him ..."
This whole area of "waiting on the Lord" can be likened to a parent and a child walking along in a rainstorm with one umbrella and the child keeps wanting to go out ahead of the parent (or they desire to lag behind) and the result is: to the degree they fall behind or go ahead they step out from under the umbrella which the parent is holding - and therefore allow themselves to be affected by all those things which are outside the umbrella. It is no different for us, as God's children, for He desires us to "dwell" in the "secret place of His presence" - walking moment to moment by faith in His Word and in perfect obedience to His commands. It is only in this place that we can come to "know" that we are totally protected and empowered in EVERY facet of our life and ministry - and that our needs are always met according to His perfect purpose. We do not in any way want to be like the little child, either moving ahead or falling behind, we want to be found walking step by step with the Father - empowered by Him in all things, having come to a clear realization of the fulness of the covenant which we have with Him in Christ. When we "dwell" in the presence of the Almighty we can be assured that - regardless of what happens "circumstantially" - He will continue to plough a path through the wickedness and the evil and the darkness of this world by His great and awesome power - continually using us to both build His Church and establish His Kingdom in the earth.
