"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak." Mark 14:38 NKJV

Jesus knew what was coming: betrayal, denial, torture, and an excruciating death. But even in His darkest hour, when His friends fell asleep on Him, when soldiers and criminals mocked Him, He chose forgiveness and compassion.

In Gethsemane, Jesus felt the weight of what He was about to do—absorb all the hell every person who has ever lived deserves—and had He only been a man, it would have crushed Him. Instead, as the God-Man, He chose the Father’s will—to be separated momentarily from the Trinity for the first time ever so that we would not have to be separated from God eternally.

Because of His choice, we have a hope and strength that the world can’t give or take-away. We suffer in this life, but because Jesus’ suffering and resurrection, we know that God does great things through the worst circumstances. We’re not hoping He might work all things together for good; we know it. Jesus chose to take on the cross; all that’s left is for us to choose Him. When our flesh doubts and struggles with sin, let His Spirit in us respond with faith.

Prayer: Jesus, You gave up everything to give me everything. I can only respond by giving You all that I am. By Your Spirit, keep me from giving in to sin.
