My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call insight your intimate friend, Proverbs 7:1-4 ESV
The things you treasure and store up in your heart will eventually determine the way you live. There are plenty of things you can think about and treasure rather than the ways of God, and that is often where trouble comes in. What is at the front of your mind right now? Is it God’s wisdom and commands, or are your thoughts directed by the worries of life, entertainment, or lofty goals you’ve set for yourself? The voices on your television, radio, or Smartphone can drown out the still, small voice of God’s Spirit calling out to you.
Consider how you can treasure God’s words for you today. You may need a little more silence to be attentive to Him. You may need a little more time to ponder the words of scripture. Then again, perhaps you need to start with removing the distractions, misplaced priorities, and noise that make it so hard to be aware of God in the first place.
Prayer: Lord, help me to remove the distractions that keep me from treasuring Your commandments in my heart. May Your wisdom guide my steps.
