What does a Christian do?

Hello everyone. I have been doing a bit of searching the last few years of my life with a strong desire to know truth, whatever that truth may be, and to devote my life to something worth living and dying for.
I initially had no interest in God, or Jesus for that matter, until a series of events that lead me to the belief of a greater creator and the ultimate connection and communication through His son. Now there seems to be an overwhelming amount of opinions and teachings of what it means to be a follower of this greater creators son, including walking down a "Romans Road", saying a "Sinners Prayer", or ensuring attendance to a certain denominational building every Sunday... Saturday... Friday?
I have seen threads asking what does Biblical Christianity look like, but with no real substance of what real steps with motion are. So, I wanted to open this thread to to ask, "What does a Christian do?" to weigh the varying answers and opinions.

That is a question I ask myself as well, and I am very curious to the responses you will get on this topic. I myself have always wondered what it means to be a true follower of Jesus. Does it look like the church in acts, does it look like the church today, is it a special prayer in your heart that you can not loss not matter what you do? I am coming to a conclusion that it can only be found by listening to what Jesus actually told his followers to do. But, like I said i can not wait for more input from different people on this topic.

The most important thing we can do is study the writings/Bible while communing with God/Jesus for understanding. Whatever, else, we mere humans do we should trust that God's got this whatever our end or ongoing. Thanks be to you my friend and brother in humanity Lord God Jesus.

Great topic and question. For me it really boils down to wanting to please my Father in Heaven, the only way to do that is to know his word and follow that. This is also a lifestyle change, it begins with being in his word daily, regular prayer time, fasting

Jesus changes your heart and you love him more then anything and want to please him, he will be on your mind all the time as he is the Love of your life, you please him by serving others, by finding your gift and producing fruit using your God given gift.

You no longer care about the world you live for eternity to please God.

Faith grows by hearing the word of God you must be in the word daily. I believe faith also grows by true obedience to the word.

My life has been radically changed, just yesterday I went out to lunch with some old buddies and they were blown away at the difference Jesus has made in my life, they could tell by just a 45 minute lunch

It is a growing and maturing process, one that never ends until we get are glorified bodies.

Jesus gives you spiritual eyes where you can see things like never before, the parables in the bible become crystel clear example.

I completely agree with finding His Word and ultimately following Him. As Jesus said, "Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand" - Matthew 4:17 and he told his disciples to drop those nets, leave those desks Matthew 4:19-20 & Matthew 9:9, forsake everything and follow the way, the truth, and the life of Jesus, resulting in a COMPLETELY new lifestyle change that leads to us being new creatures. - 2 Corinthians 5:17

So I quit my job and follow Jesus like the disciples?

I do not think the bible tells us we have to quit are job to follow Jesus like the disciples did. We can still be good disciples with out quitting our job,( unless of course your job is something that goes against the word of God like working at a abortion clinic.)

I am sure some are called to do that as in quitting there job

but many are called to stay right where they are to live a Godly life being a model for outsiders to see. IMO God put us whear we are for a reason. I think its our job to find our gift and use it to produce fruit.

It may be that our calling is to work the job we have and use our money to support the missionaries that called to spread the word of God, we are all on the same team with many different roles, but with same purpose or should I say Goal.


Here is what Paul says to do
1 Thessalonians 4:10-12
For that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.

I do not think the bible tells us we have to quit are job to follow Jesus like the disciples did.

Not the Bible, but Jesus tells those who want to follow him on multiple occasions to do exactly that. To the first disciples (Matthew 4:19-20 & Matthew 9:9) and then them, to also make disciples of ALL the nations (Matthew 28:19) to do the same as the first.

We can still be good disciples with out quitting our job

Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Matthew 6:24 & Luke 16:13

Paul backed this up in Romans 6:16 saying, "Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?"

Ever try witnessing to people about Jesus full time at place of business in America (or any part of the world for that matter)? You would be told to shut up, sit down, and get back to work (for money), or they would simply fire you. Give it a try if that sounds too outlandish.

Here is what Paul says to do

You say, "This is what Paul says to do"; but on the other hand, I am hearing what Jesus says to do. At this point we have to ask ourselves does Paul contradict or is at odds with Jesus? Paul even made mention to his letter to the Galatians that let him, any other, or even an angel of light be damned if anyone come preaching a gospel contrary to what they received. - Galatians 1:6-9

I do not believe Paul is promoting loyalty to be slaves to working for money, but loyalty to Christ/The Gospel which I think is made clear in 1 Corinthians 9 but very specifically in verse 14 (1 Corinthians 9:14) and continued on in verse 16 saying, "...for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel" ( 1 Corinthians 9:16).

Both Paul, but especially Jesus, is calling ALL to be free to work for God and "not to become slaves of men". - 1 Corinthians 7:21-24

I suppose the question narrows to; are all who are Christian to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
