Hello brothers and sisters, I'm just wondering what is meant by praying in the spirit, it is praying like normal but being thankful and really appreciating Jesus? Is it praying in tongues? Do you feel anything like a presence? Or is it praying for hours on end?

Help me out I'm stuck as I would love to be able to do this.

Hi Child of Christ, as Christians, we have the helper, the Holy Spirit who leads us when we walk. We may have a thought, that prayer is needed for say, a friend. It might not come in power, but we receive the thought because of concern, and we seek the Lord. The thought came to us, we weren't seeking it. Where did it come from? I shouldn't think it was from the enemy, why would he wish us to seek God for a friend? So if it wasn't from our-self, and it wasn't from the enemy, the only other person who guides us, is our counselor, the Holy Spirit. That I believe, is one form of praying in the Spirit, the other is if you are moved to speak in tongues. Normally when we don't fully understand the complexities of a situation, know it needs prayer, but have no understanding of the truth of a matter, this is when praying in tongues comes into it's own and the Holy Spirit, who knows the situation, can pray for us. This is my understanding, others may have different ones. Bless you.
