And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7 NLT
As you consider what your life is built on, or how your roots are growing, it’s good to give some thought to what you listen to, who you trust, and how you spend your time. Your roots or foundation are often determined by who offers you guidance and by what you value. If you value time spent in the Lord’s presence and meditating on scripture, then you will build on your foundation or send your roots down deeper.
Failing to send your roots deeper in Christ will result in a shaky foundation or roots that aren’t stable. When you spend time with the Lord and learn to trust Him with your whole heart, you’ll find that your faith can grow regardless of your circumstances. As your awareness of God grows deeper each day, you’ll also find more opportunities to offer thanks for His care, peace, and provision. Each life situation becomes a chance to trust God more completely and follow Him more closely.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to grow in my trust in You and to replace any unreliable foundations with a deeper commitment to and awareness of You.
