I have always wondered
What Mary might have thought
When she was told that she would carry
The promised Savior in her body
Her thoughts might have been those of shire fear
Or those of servant hood
Maybe those of good cheer
I have always wondered
What Mary might have thought
As Joseph led the donkey
To Bethlehem and to the stable door
Mary had her baby there
In the hay that night
And placed Baby Jesus in the manager
Sweet Baby Jesus, He was
I have always wondered what Mary might have thought
As the shepherd came to see
Baby Jesus and worship Him the new born king
The shepherds came with their flocks
To see the Baby on his mother's knee
I have wondered what Mary might have thought
As the Wise Men came from afar
And laid three presents at Baby Jesus' feet
Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh
The Wise Men then also worshipped
Baby Jesus, too
And went away back to their own lands from which they came
I have always wondered what Mary might have thought
As she held her Baby close
The very Messiah
Who is the Savior of the World
Oh, I have wondered what Mary might have thought
Though we may never know
What Mary might have thought
When she was told that she would carry
The promised Savior in her body
Her thoughts might have been those of shire fear
Or those of servant hood
Maybe those of good cheer
