What's It Going To Take? - August 12, 2006
"And The Lord said to Moses, "How long will this people despise Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, in spite of all the signs which I have wrought among them?" Numbers 14:11
Some people just don't seem to get it. Or maybe they don't even care, or feel it necessary to think about things within the spiritual realm such as God and the afterlife. They live in the here and now; only wanting to deal with what is before them at the moment. Those individuals who believe and have experienced the reality of God in their lives may reveal profound personal transformations and other signs and wonders which followed their faith in God. Yet, as the above Bible verse reveals, in spite of the signs, those they have spoken with still will not believe.
Sadly, many people exist in this world totally oblivious to God. And as such, I must ask myself, "What's it going to take for them to open their blind eyes, deaf ears and hard hearts?" Will someone close to them have to die before they raise their own questions about life after death? Does sickness or disease have to befall them before they humble themselves enough to cry out to the Lord? Must their own lives be endangered before they shout, "Help me, God!" Worse yet, what if they put off God until it is too late?
Again, I ask, what's it going to take?
In essence, God has prepared an awesome feast for us all, but His invitation to partake of it is continually ignored.
"And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come." (Matthew 22:1)
What about you? What's it going to take for you to take notice of the One who has been calling and reaching out to you?
Prayer: "Dear God, I have hidden from You long enough. I have lived according to my own devices, and they have failed miserably. I am ready to take hold of Your hand now, God, and to start anew. Come into my life, dear Lord, and soften my heart with Your love. This I ask in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen."
