Hi there,
I do a weekly Bible study / discussion group with the church I go to. Each session takes me about 4 - 5 hours to prepare. Next week we're doing Romans 8:28-39. I've copied and pasted my notes below. After I'd prepared I did a little experiment and asked ChatGPT to - write a thought provoking Bible discussion on Romans 8:28-39. ChatGPT took just 6.5 seconds.
I've copied and pasted my notes below and below there's a link to ChatGPT's script.
Compare them and let me know what you think the implications are of AI for the believing Christian. Don't just shoot from the hip, have a prayer and think about before answering.
Is this a useful tool from man's God given ingenuity or something more sinister?
God bless and I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead.

Andy's notes-
V28. The verse starts with the word and, meaning it's a continuation of the previous verse that explains how God and the Holy Spirit work together to draw you closer to Him - intercessor. Let's first look at who qualities for the promise before we look at the promise. Let's avoid empty theological debate about free will. We know that God doesn't want anyone to perish so, if a man turns and repents, God isn't going to turn him or her away just because they are not on His list. We also know that God knows you inside out before you were even conceived and whether or not you will at some point in your life, repent and believe. So predestined means prediction with 100% certainty. God has always known if you have a propensity to accept Him and believe; He'd know if you were one of those that He could call until He was blue in the face, He'd be flogging a dead horse. An example, Matthew 16:1-4.
Now let's look at the promise, Paul is saying in effect, that nothing bad is going happen to you. Yes, it might feel bad at the time but something good that will outweigh the pain of the event or situation which will more than counterbalance the bad. But then look at the flip side of the promise, what does Paul say happens to those who don't believe?
V29-30. Promise No. 2. You're going to look like Jesus. What does Jesus look like? 1 Corinthians 15:49, Revelation 1:13-16. Is that what you'll look like? In what way will you look like Jesus? Jesus is our elder brother, so we will look like Him. V30 summarises -
Predestined = chosen by prediction.
God calls = testimony.
Justified = salvation.
Glorified = resemblance.
How does God's plan outlined by Paul compare to Genesis 1:26?
V31. Sealed with this promise, who can frustrate you?
V32. A reminder that God was prepared to send His son to die in your stead which you can take as reassurance that anything less than that, He and Jesus will give you. Note, the absence of the word prayer and ask. I wonder why? He will freely provide whatever you need.
V33-34. Then a series of questions, answers and why the answer is 'not applicable'. Here's the question, can you give me the answer and I'll tell you why it's not applicable -
Question: who can bring a charge against God’s elect? Answer ..... but He's not going to, instead He's going to justify you. Can anyone else do that? They'd have to be without sin. John 8:7.
Question: who can condem you? Answer ...... but He's not going to, instead He's going to intercede for you. John 17:9
Question: who or what can separate us from the love of Jesus? Tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril or the sword?
V 35. Final question Look at the context of these last two chapters. Paul is saying that no matter what this world can throw at us, it's as nothing as compared to the wonders of the next world. Are there any Bible stories that illustrate that point? Job 19:26-27.
Look at Paul's list list of bad things - Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Do we have examples in today's world of - 1.) tribulation. 2.) distress, 3.) persecution, 4.) famine, 5.) nakedness, 6.) peril, 7.) sword? We tend to equate these with news headlines from around the world. Can you think of examples closer to home? When Paul says that none of these can separate us from the love of Jesus, is he referring to your love of Jesus or Jesus's love of you?
V 36. No misapprehension, bad things do happen to believers, Psalm 44:22.
Here's a more recent example. The Guardian 7th March 2006
Vicar who cannot forgive tube bombers quits pulpit -
A vicar whose daughter died in the London tube bombings has stepped down because she can no longer bring herself to fulfil her duty to preach forgiveness.
The Rev Julie Nicholson, 52, has felt unable to celebrate communion for her parishioners since her daughter, Jenny, was killed at Edgware Road on July 7 last year. Unwilling to be a hypocrite, she has resigned from the parish of St Aidan with St George in Bristol.
"It's very difficult for me to stand behind an altar and celebrate the Eucharist, the Communion, and lead people in words of peace and reconciliation and forgiveness when I feel very far from that myself," she said in a BBC interview. "So for the time being, that wound in me is having to heal. In terms of my ministry, a colleague and a friend recently said priesthood begins in the world, not in the church, and I was very relieved to hear that; because what I am trying to do now is redefine my priesthood.
"I am looking for a way in which I can still have priestly ministry when there are some things I can no longer practise, or I can't currently practise, and for me that's about integrity."
The Bishop of Bristol, Mike Hill, a friend of hers, said he understood how her faith had been shaken. "I think these situations in life shake the faith of everybody, because they immediately bring into focus the 'why' question," he said. "Unfortunately, there's no simple Elastoplast answer to that question."
Jenny Nicholson, who was 24, was killed by the suicide bomber Mohammed Sidique Khan on the eastbound Circle line service she had boarded at Paddington station. She had phoned her boyfriend, James White, minutes earlier.
Mrs Nicholson was too distraught to speak at her daughter's funeral at Bristol Cathedral in August, but the bishop made her feelings clear, telling the 1,000 mourners: "There are few human words that can adequately express what we feel about people who indiscriminately carry out apparent acts of senseless violence against innocent civilian populations and, unbelievably, do so in the name of God.
"Such delusion, such evil, is impossible for us to begin to comprehend."
Mrs Nicholson, who has two other children, Tom, 16, and Lizzie, 22, was given extended compassionate leave but has been unable to return to the parish and has taken a job with a church-backed community youth project. A spokesman for the bishop said the post was a natural extension of her work with the church: "She received great support from the diocese, but she decided this particular project is something she is keen to be involved in."
V37. So how are you supposed to overcome tragedies and setbacks? Jesus is your protector, not always protecting you from tragedy and setback but always protecting you from the consequences of them, but only so long as you live in the spirit.
V38. A fabulous verse of comfort, reassurance and hope. What does it mean to you? What do you take from it?
Let's look deeper into this verse and look at 'any other created thing'. Colossians 1:16. These horrors in Romans 8:38 didn’t just happen or were some unintended consequence or byproduct, they were created by God purposefully and deliberately, but why? They were to mess up His creation, cause sin and misery and cost Him His son. So why?
The Garden of Eden was a beautiful place with vegetarian wolves and lions. The new Heaven and Earth will be an absolutely incredible and amazing place. Look at-
For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. Romans 8:19 NKJV Who are those sons of God? You! Adam was never described as a son of God.
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10 NKJV. Adam was a gardener, looking after Eden. We will be Kings of the whole earth, not just a garden. The new Earth will be so much better than Eden.
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:1-4 NKJV. You're going to a wedding, and not just as a guest.
