Matthew 13- 37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things F29 that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. My question is when does this parable happen? It sounds like the wicked are gathered and destroyed first. Is it after the rapture? Is it speaking about the people that live during Christ 1000 year reign and are seperated at the end. Thanks

The parable you cite (Mt 13:24-29) is a parallel to the prophesy Jesus utters in Mt 25: 31-48. They both refer to the day of his return; the Day of Final Judgement.

Explanation of Wheat and Tares

Matthew 13

At the return of Christ to earth "after" the tribulation and at the "end" of the earth age (Rev 19:11-21), there will be a "time of harvest" of "both" the wicked and the righteous who are living on the earth (vrs 30, 40-42)

(1) The wicked are first gathered and taken out from among the righteous (vrs 30, 41, 49)

(2)The righteous are gathered next (vrs 30, 41-43, 49)...this gathering will be out of His Kingdom.

(3) After the harvest and the destruction of the wicked, "then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father"
(vrs 43; 25:31-34. See also Rev 20:4...explantion:
Those who came to life "after" Christ's return are said to be the "faithful" who "died" during the tribulation. John does not mention the resurrection of the church saints who have died, for this occurred when Christ removed His church from earth and took it to heaven (The Rapture)...

(4)The Thousand Year Reign of Christ: The people "ruled" by Christ will consist of those on earth who were faithful to Christ "during" the tribulation period and who survived until the Lord's Coming and also those "born" "during the millennium.

I got this information from my NIV, Full Life Study Bible notes .

I hope it helps.

Blessings in Christ Jesus,

I personally believe the tares to be spoken of as the unbelievers in the church. Tares can be weeds that are very hard to distinguish from actual wheat itself. So I think they speak of a very specific kind of unbeliever that is hard to distinguish from a believer. I was a "tare" for I don't know how long. I finally had to come to grips with the fact that if I was a Christian my life should probably reflect it, and it certainly did not. Just my .02$
