When God’s Instructions Don’t Make Sense

By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. Hebrews 11:7 NKJV

Have you ever wondered what Noah must have been thinking when God called him? After all, God called him to build a giant boat and then load thousands of animals and his family into it—because He was about to destroy the world with a cataclysmic flood.

The writer of Hebrews mentions Noah’s faith and obedience. Then gain. Noah was human. His senses likely told him that what God had just told him made little earthly sense.

This story in the book of Genesis is one of amazing faith on the part of one man. When you read God’s instructions to Noah in Genesis 6:12-22, you find that he never questioned or tested Him. The end of this passage simply says, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him”. Because of his faith and obedience, in the face of something he could not yet see, he and his family and the animal kingdom were saved.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that faith means not just believing in You but also trusting You enough to listen and obey You. Please work in my heart and mind so that I obey Your commands readily.
