Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. "I am the one who needs to be baptized by you," he said, "so why are you coming to me?" But Jesus said, "It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires." So John agreed to baptize him. Matthew 3:13-15 NLT

From the moment the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she, a young virgin girl, would miraculously give birth to the Messiah, everything about Jesus fulfilled God’s perfect will for the Savior. That included His baptism by John in the Jordan River.

Jesus was the one and only perfect man to walk the earth, and yet He insisted that He undergo baptism, an outward act symbolizing inward repentance. Jesus wasn’t baptized as a symbol of repentance from sin—this perfect man never sinned in any way (Hebrews 4:15). Rather, He was baptized so that He could fully identify Himself with sinners. In a very real way, Jesus became one of us that day.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am encouraged and overwhelmed at the thought that You came to earth to live as a man and as God’s only Son. You did both perfectly, down to the very last detail, so that You could present Yourself as God’s perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humanity. Thank You for all You’ve done for me.

Greetings in the Lord
I find it amazing how Mary could keep things locked away in her heart; even Joseph.
And when they went to Jerusalem to pay taxes when Jesus was twelve and lost him.
Returning to find Him in the synagogue, with those that condemned Him to death later.
Accepted as a child and they were amazed at His wisdom and knowledge at 12, but killed Him as an adult.
They knew Him from his youth.

God first always

Dear Sister,
I believe every mother has the capacity for locking away in their heart the experiences, good ones and bad, that they go through with their children. You do not go through the carrying of a child given by God growing within you without having an affinity, a bond if you will, with that child that lasts a lifetime! It is especially poignant and amazing for her because she carried the Son of God!

Thank-you for sharing your thoughts dear sister.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

You may be right beloved brother,

But Jesus God has spoken to me that many things He did for us to follow. For example the 40 days in the desert He did for us to follow. To sacrifice our flesh for the Kingdom of Gd He did for us to follow.

What you write about baptism being an outward act symbolizing inward repentance it is very beautifully put, just in line with what I have been taught by God. I have also been told by God that it is a pact made in heaven, in that eternal reality.

God has also taught me that the promise of the pact can be seen already in the covenant of Abraham, since the furnace and the lamp that He our Lord made to move between the split carcasses are two symbols. The lamp being a a tool for light, which is what we are to become. The furnace is a tool for transforming matter into light, a tool for purification.

It is about walking the way that Jesus is, to repent til we become a tool for light, a light for the world, following Him Who is the light of the world.

On earth we must keep walking there, in heaven it already is, what has been, and is to become.
