The LORD [is] good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7 NKJV
On their road to spiritual maturity, some Christians find themselves disappointed--sometimes bitterly so, that their life in Christ isn't the rose garden they thought it would be. Those who have walked with Him over a long period of time, however, understand that God never promised those who trust in Him that life would be easy. On the contrary, Jesus Himself taught, "In this world you will have trouble" (John 16:33 NIV).
But you can find comfort in the second half of Jesus' statement about troubles in this world: "But take heart! I have overcome the world." That's an important promise to remember when you're up against problems you can't solve on your own.
Remember also that the Bible promises "that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28 NIV). Even this mess? You might be thinking. Yes, even this mess!
When you're going through difficult times, you can believe that God cares for you and is fully aware of your stress and your suffering. Not only that, you can count on Him to bring something good out of what you're enduring.
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in You at all times, especially when I'm enduring difficulty in this life.
