Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I have recently given eight people a beatitude each to comment on. Every single one said the one that I had given them was the most challenging....

I don't know about anyone else, but personally, the hardest one for me to accept is..."Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."

I suppose my spiritual definition of the word 'meek' could be off center. Meek does not necessarily mean allowing people to walk all over you and be a doormat.

Jesus said them....so the beatitudes are all true. Oh, that I would learn them greatly and apply them to my life.

Blessed are those who mourn

I have had a lot of sadness in my life and sometimes it feels so overwhelming to get through it all. I know that I am now being comforted by Jesus and the love of my Father and the Holy Spirit. I know they are with me, but sometimes I fear that I would be "lost" again.
I pray that I do good works for God. Good post!

Amen:Pixie

I Dunno

This is a toughie. I guess for me it would probably be: blessed are the pure at heart, because sometimes I question my motives. I would like to think my motives are always pure, but in all honesty, I'm just not sure. However, I do feel that I have an altruistic nature.

As Spreadtheword said, I dunno. Great thread though!

I think fo me it is "Blessed are the meek....." because I still struggle a lot with pride. Pride and meekness are like oil and water; they don't blend together at all.

Pixie,

Pray not that you would do good works for God. Pray rather that God will be able to do good works through you (Big difference).

I think they are all interlinked

Here one can not say this is hardest and other is easiest. These are fruits of the spirit of Jesus in us and so when Jesus is there every words will become living flesh in us and throug us. Since they are all interconnected you can't seperate one from another.

Thanks for these replies - interesting!

I find them all hard, but blessed are the pure in heart for me is the hardest

I added the poll brother kenwyn.

I think I have trouble understanding the initial question, as far as acceptance, it's not hard for me to accept these things, they are true, they are like the Law Jesus gave, I think with every word that Jesus spoke, He changed the world in mere seconds, He is God. If He says something, it happens.

I voted none of them, it's not hard for me to accept these beattitudes, it's something I have to accept.

God bless you
Much love

I understand and accept all the Beatitudes as fact.
Though I have trouble with a few in my own life, the worst for me is...
Persecution for righteousness sake. I've given up doing things that I know God wished me to continue because I was too weak.
I'm sorry God.

Like Buddy, I wasn't talking about accepting the truth of the beatitudes so much as living by them.

Jesus deliberately overturns the conventional wisdom everything about life – the conventional wisdom that teaches us that the powerful inherit the earth and that the meek are trampled upon.

His original audience was stunned and amazed. I hope that today these verses have not become so familiar to us that they have lost their impact.

Excellent poll brother kenwyn. I really like this one, gets you thinking.

I think some may apply more to certain people than they may to others.

I personally have passed and failed all of them in life as I'm sure many have as well. I think in my circumstance in life the hardest one right now is probably being pure at heart. I'm not 100% sure (will look it up and study, pray for understanding) exactly what purity its referring to but to me, I'm thinking pure like Jesus Christ in every aspect. Love one another including enemies, sacrifice, humility, no evil intentions or motives, etc.

Blessed are the poor in Spirit

As a Christian, I find it impossible to be poor in Spirit. Maybe sometimes I might feel alittle down about something, but the Spirit of GOD does not let me stay there long. No one ever wants to be poor either.

None of them are hard to accept because I accept all of them, but the hardest to deal with I must say is persecution. Being persecuted isn't easy, but I know my reward awaits me in heaven and that makes it all worth while.

Wow!!! What a wonderful thread! It kept me thinking on and on......

But what I can say is that God knows everthing in us, we may do certain things sub-conciously, but God knows it. We do make mistakes, we cannot avoid it.

Thank you so much for posting this poll.

God bless you.

I don't think that being "poor in spirit" has anything to do with sadness or depression. I've always been taught that it means humble acceptance of who God is and who I am by comparison.

:star:I picked none of them as the Bible states it they are true and infallibly true but I don't say I never have trouble with any of them at times :star:
