Who Are Our Heros? - March 04, 2006

"Dear friend, dont let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do what is right prove that they are Gods children; and those who continue in evil prove that they are far from God." (III John 1:11)

We all have our heros and look up to certain people. We may not fully realize it, but those whom we smile upon, we tend to mold ourselves after. To prove this point, think of how many young people have a teen idol or pop star they think is very cool. Chances are, they will buy that persons CDs, watch their movies, and sometimes even attempt to dress like them.

Emulating what is good, pleasing to God, and honorable is wonderful. However, what happens when the people or lifestyles we are following do not reflect ideas or modes of living which will bring our ultimate health and happiness?

As the above Bible verse reveals, we should be careful who or what we follow so that we are only pursuing what is good, and not evil. Sure, we all make mistakes at one time or another, but those who desire to please God will never remain in sin, for they know it is an abomination to Him.

Today is a good day to think about who influences YOU. Are they people who encourage you to be a better person, or those who are leading you closer to a path of unhealthy lifestyles? It is okay to let go of, and walk away from that which brings us father away from God. Thankfully, it is never too late to change our course.
