One of the great mysteries of the Bible is Melchizedek, who is mentioned in Genesis Chapter 14 and is described as king of Salem, meaning king of peace. The City of Salem became known later as Jerusalem. In Hebrews 7:3, Melchizedek is described as being "without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the son of God, remains a priest continually."
Like Jesus, Melchizedek is eternal. Perhaps he was Jesus appearing in the Old Testament; this is unknown and Melchizedek remains shrouded in mystery. We do know that Hebrews 7:17 describes Jesus as being "a priest to eternity, after the order of Melchizedek (corrected to the Greek)."
