1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORDTHAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’”
5 Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,
‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU’;
and
‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,
SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.’”
8 Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; 9 and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOURGOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’” 11 Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.

Hi Ploughboy, In Job, God asked Satan if he had considered Job, Satan's answer was, (to paraphrase) How can I, you've put a hedge around him and I can't get at him. God said to him OK he's in you hands but you must not take his life. Satan is totally subject to God, which leads me to believe, that God is the God of Satan. bless you.

I agree with what you have said: referring to the book of "JOB". But there is something there in Matthew, that many miss concerning Jesus reply to Satan. Take a good look at Jesus words, since we know who Jesus is, and Satan is a deceiver, look who he is trying to deceive and how Jesus corrects him. Look at the English syntax as well. You might laugh when you see it.

Ploughboy, I can see where your coming from. But if the Word came down into a human body, he would be communing his counterparts in heaven, I would have thought?

Jesus was letting Satan know that he had it backwards, "you are not to put ME to the test "I Am your God""I don't worship you, you are to worship And serve ME! Now GO, and Satan obeyed! Read it again in the English syntax. Jesus is "The WORD" wrap up in flesh! Satan I created you! For me and my Father are ONE! Now Go! LOL! Satan trying to deceive the very WORD that created him. LOL! Funny when I read that, I liked to fell out my chair laughing!

I can go along with that Ploughboy, I expect Satan was over the moon to see Jesus in his domain and thought he might stand a chance. But as you say, the created has no power over the creator. bless you.

Many Christians do not realizes or many of us only has grown so far in understanding some depth within this portion of "Holy Scripture", for depthness of Gods WORD is infinite, Example:>

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

All of this is referring to "The WORD" and describing "The WORD" and Book of John is giving us a painted description of His Redemption mission in the completing mission of his part in the creation of this creature called "human". "Let us make man in "our" image, after "our" likeness". I'm not going to go into the next paragraph of that chapter. Because I am just commenting on what we called the second part of the "Triune".

We should pray that all our brethren are given the Grace to see Ploughboy. Bless you.
