Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. Psalm 86:11 NLT

David wanted to honor God by living according to His truth, but being a humble man who knew his own limitations, he knew he needed to fully depend on Him to do that. In the above verse, David entreats the Lord, asking Him for teaching and for a pure heart.

David understood that God loved him and wanted to help him live a life and speak words that honored Him. In making the requests in Psalm 86:11, David showed himself to be a man Jesus would call “poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3)—in other words, a man who knew how much he needed God, a man who needed to approach a holy but loving God as a beggar with empty hands outstretched in hopes of receiving from Him.

God desires that you honor Him in all your words and all your deeds. But He never intended for you to go it alone. On the contrary, He wants you to fully depend on Him for teaching, wisdom, and purity of heart so that you can live according to His truth.

Prayer: Lord, I want to honor You every day and in every way. Please teach me Your ways and purify my heart that I may do just that. I praise Your name and thank You for hearing my prayers.
