Hello
@smartammo,
This departure of the Spirit of the Lord from Saul is mentioned here, at the recording of the fact that the Spirit of the Lord had come upon David, thereby marking and contrasting these two important events in the lives of Saul and David.( see 17:1 and 18:12 ).
' Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me,
seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?
And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me:
for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek,
therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines:
and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me:
the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.'
(1 Samuel 28:16-19)
By looking up the name Amalek in the concordance, you will be referred to all references to him, as you know, and be able to look them up, and see them within their contexts, and thereby know why the Lord God was so against Amalek, and how and why Saul did not obey God in regard to him. This will give you part of the reason at least why God took His Spirit from Saul. Consulting the witch of Endor was one of the acts of disobedience which Saul committed, but there are others, I need to refresh my mind as to what they are myself,
@smartammo.
Happy hunting!
