Why do I need Jesus? How Do I Receive Salvation?

God's Love

'God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life' (John 3:16 NIV).

God's Plan

[Christ speaking] "I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly" [that it might be full and meaningful] (John 10:10).
Why is it that most people are not experiencing the abundant life? Because...

#2 Man is SINFUL and SEPARATED from God. He cannot experience God's love.

Man Is Sinful
'All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23).

Man was created to have fellowship with God; but, because of his stubborn self-will, he chose to go his own independent way, and fellowship with God was broken. This self-will, characterised by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, is an evidence of what the Bible calls sin.

Man Is Separated
'The wages of sin is death' [spiritual separation from God] (Romans 6:23)

#3 Jesus Christ is God's ONLY provision for man's sin.

He Died in Our Place
'God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us' (Romans 5:8). He Rose From the Dead
'Christ died for our sins...He was buried...He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures...He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred...' (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).

He Is the Only Way to God
'Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me"' (John 14:6).

#4 We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

We Must Receive Christ
'As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name' (John 1:12).

We Receive Christ Through Faith
'By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast' (Ephesians 2:8,9).

When We Receive Christ, We Experience a New Birth
'Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."' (John 3:3).

We Receive Christ by Personal Invitation

[Christ speaking] "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him" (Revelation 3:20).

To know God, it is as easy as a prayer...

Giving your life to Jesus is an act of faith that you can express through prayer.Praying is simply talking to God. He knows you . What matters is the attitude of your heart, your honesty. We suggest you pray the following prayer:

"Lord Jesus Christ,
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. I ask your forgiveness and now turn from everything which I know is wrong. Thank you for dying on the cross for me to set me free from my sins. Please come into my life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and be with me forever. Thank you Lord Jesus, Amen."

This is a life changing decision.

how to receive salvation? revisited.

Now I don't profess to be better that you or more knowledgeable. I'm humbling ask that you look at these things before disregarding what I'm saying in this post.

I agree with most of what your saying. I agree all have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). I also agree that our sins is what separates us from God (Romans 6:23). I agree also that Jesus the death burial and resurrection was necessary for our redemption (Romans 5:8). Their is no other way to God except through Christ (John 14:6).

However some of the other scriptures you used are taken out of context. Which in turn effects the point of what those scriptures are getting at. The bible message needs to be shared correctly ( 2 tim 2:15). This is not a rebuke but encouragement. We all need to be careful what we teach. for we will have to answer to God, and those who desire to teach will be judged more strickly (James 3:1) (me included )

Here some things about the scriptures you used that require examination. (Ephesians 2:8,9) Ephesians is a letter that Paul wrote to a church of Christian (Eph 1 :1). The audience were already in Christ and the purpose of the letter was not meant to teach convertion but to instruct the gentile converts on how they should live as disciples. Second thing about this passage is early christianity had a lot of false teacher to contend with. Jewish Christian although not call out in that church, were pressuring gentiles to adapt works into their doctrince of Christianity. Works, according (in jewish mindset) referred to circumcism, dietary restriction and special days of worship. Basically strict adhere to the mosaic law. We know that the Galatian church was the neighbour to Ephesian. One major issue for the Galatian struggled with exchange the freedom of christ for the yolk of the Law (gal 3:1-4). For fear that the struggles of the Galatian church would effect the Ephesians. Paul addresses in Eph 2: 8-9. Some would say that this is a reference to baptism. However the work Paul mentions is a reference to the mosaic law. furthermore baptism was not included in the mosiac law.

(Revelation 3:20) is another scripture written to the church (again people who are already Christian). The context here is that the church has become lukewarm. Jesus said these things because he was disappointed in them for falling away from him. This was an invitation to the christians to let Jesus back into their heart. This scripture, according to its context, can't be used to teach non christians to become christians.

The best way to see the conversion process is to look at the Book of ACTS. the common thread among all the converts. They heard the message, they believed, were broken about there sin and repented, confess that Jesus is Lord, and got baptized. And lived the life after they got converted. you will notice that the sinner's prayer is not mentioned in acts once. If so then I will change my point of view. Their are many examples of conversion but all the same process (with the exception of Corneilus which is explained by the scriptures) After Jesus leaves the earth. Again I'm very open to be shown any error in my thinking.

Brother, I'm not sure exactly what your getting at to be honest, please forgive me. What I'm confused about is your mention of being saved or not by the sinners prayer. I don't see that as the point of the article I posted. This is posted in the "get saved now" forum for newcomers who are not yet saved. This is a simple invitation and explanation of why we need Jesus and how to receive Him as Savior. That is basically it.

Please explain what Scripture is taken out of context as you mentioned, I asked you before, but you responded by asking me the same question

The Message to Laodicea

If the angel at Philadelphia was given an "open door" (3:8), individuals at Laodicea are told of another door, one that they must open: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me (v. 20). These words have often been romanticized in popular religious art, in pictures of Jesus "knocking at the heart's door." What is wrong is that Jesus is standing outside the door, excluded from the banquet like the homeless stranger in Amos Wilder's poem. The poignant plea, though directed first to the church at Laodicea, is strategically placed near the end of the series of messages as Christ's last appeal to any congregation that has shut him out. The beautiful "invitation" is at the same time a severe indictment of a church that is self-sufficient, complacent and only marginally Christian.

Your reference to Ephesians 2:8-9 raises an important point, in my opinion. It is true that Ephesians was written to an established church but , in that quote, Paul was taking them back to the process that produced their salvation, which began before that church was established; thus reminding us that salvation is a process, not an event.

Who knows how long God, in his grace, had been drawing these people to Himself before the church at Ephesus took shape? Months? Years?"The Lord's hand was with them, and (as a result) a great number of people came to the Lord" (Acts 11:21).

Disciple...your making this an unfruitful thread, so please stop. Your profile says you've been saved since '96, you should know by now the basic teaching of Salvation in Jesus. Your arguing and questioning people's prayer is fruitless and judgmental if you ask me. Its not your business, but the sinner and GOD alone.

To receive the free gift of salvation one must confess their sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior of their life. That is the most basic teaching in Scripture. If you find room to argue, then you'll need to find a new room to argue in, not here.

Your sin is removed by the blood of Christ, it is removed when you repent(change your ways and confess and apologize for your sins)

When Jesus died on the cross, He died for the sins of the world, for every human being, your sins are forgiven by Christ, through His crucifixion and death and resurrection.

There is no specific prayer that needs to be prayed to accept Jesus as your Lord, the prayer may vary, some people need to read a prayer, as they can't find the words themselves.
