Why do people use derogatory words

Why did Jesus use derogatory words? What was the point of them?

Rhema
Hello Rhema,

The word 'derogatory' means 'to detract from'. by using words which express a low opinion of someone or something, which diminish that person or thing as inferior, yes?
I do not believe the Lord spoke with that intent: for it is a form of personal attack, and the Lord did not speak on His own account. He exposed hypocrisy, and those who made the word of God of none-effect by their traditions, and who sought to thwart the purposes of God. He swept out those who used God's house as though it were a den of thieves, but it is said of Him that he would not break a bruised reed, or shout aloud in the streets, He was also able to judge justly because He knew what was in men's hearts, and only spoke words which He received from His heavenly Father.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Hi,
What derogatory words did Jesus ever use? Please quote the verses.
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
(Matthew 12:34 KJV)

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
(Matthew 23:15 KJV)

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
(Matthew 23:27 KJV)

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
(Matthew 23:33 KJV)

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
(John 8:44 KJV)

(The words above certainly aren't complimentary.)

1) showing strong disapproval and not showing respect:

Well.... ?? I don't think calling someone a child of hell to be respectful.

Hello @Rhema,

The Lord Jesus Christ is capable of making righteous judgments, that is the difference.

:)

Jesus spoke appropriately and rightIy. Those are not swear words . I personally wouldn't question the words the Lord spoke.

The Lord corrects and chastises as He wishes. I humbly accept and do not see it as a licence to swear or curse. I am not worthy to question God.

Just a little side note I was thinking about alot.....
We can't keep shutting down threads about LGBTQ if someone has a question it should be answered right? not just ignored or yelled at. we should give a full explanation so that it makes sense to them rather than trying to confuse them maybe that would open their minds a little more. just a suggestion we could all talk about our different beliefs weather we believe or like the lgbtq communty or not we should still allow them to ask questions and be on this site because they're apart of this human world too we are all just learning about life please could we stop shutting them down I don't want them to think this site is against them.

Those are not swear words .
Neither is calling someone an ignoramus, you ignoramus.

But it sure is derogatory...no? (I'm sure you felt it was.)

Rhema

PS: And I was ONLY giving an example, no actual intention to be derogatory, Christiana :innocent:

Hi Bug,

No idea what you're talking about. If threads are being shut down, it isn't my fault, nor do I have any authority over them, right?

And why LGBTQ? I've got nothing to do with any of that either. (I mean I know a couple of gay guys, but ...)

Are you gay?

Rhema

You bet !! (When the question is appropriate to the conversation of course.)
