Why is it so that it that people who claim to be Christian...

seem to want to prove you wrong, or shut you down instead of glorifying God? Some of them are so intent on telling you what they think or know, or how you are wrong instead of finding the good in the post or opinion and showing kindness. Why is this? It is like an ego thing and I will be the first to say I do not have scripture memorized and I am an imperfect sinner who is guilty of much. However I have renewed my priorities, been baptized and repent, and try every day. Why aren't people nicer if they are Christian?

A variety of reasons actually. This is a christian website, and there are many here who dont want it to become a "believe what you want and I will cheer you on regardless of what you believe". That being said, many of the same people dont know how to be kind in their letting you know why something said might be wrong. Plus nearly everyone has their own personal biases, thats really hard for them to overcome, as it was the way they were raised in their faith. Be patient with them, either let them know (kindly) that they might be wrong (because of your reasons why-if those reasons hold water), or accept that you cant really change anyone but you (a must accept truth). They can change themselves "IF" convicted by the Holy Spirit or reasoned with from scripture, and they accept your reasoning.

Hi DieAmartyr, What I have found out is first we cannot look at ourselves as the scum of the earth anymore. ( 1 Cor 1:2) Yes we have faults!! 2. I had to get try out of my brain!! No such word as try! Try is an excuse to not be a doer.( James 1:22) This does not say try to be one lol Try is a worldly excuse. If I tossed you a quarter and told you to catch it,you would either catch or you would not, if you missed it would you say I tryed to catch it?

And what did try do for you?? See my point?? I was used to making a great many excuses for myself,but that is excatly what I was doing!!! making excuses!! The worst valley a brother or sister can ever fall into is the valley of excuses! Renewing our mind on a daily basic is vital!!( Rom 12:2) Scripture to me is read until you believe,I mean really believe what it says for you personal I have found out. And we know this!!!! By living our faith,not just talking about our faith.

This is just something to consider,I tell no one what they should believe,but I have recieved very good results with my mindset anyway,so I share for others to consider is all. This was some meat that was hard to swallow for me,but I chewed on it until I could swallow it lol. Hope this helps.

It might also be a difference in the way men and women communicate. Excuse the broad generalisation coming up.

When a group of women is together, they tend to share news about each other, especially topics that are relational or emotional in nature.

Men are more likely to sit together and swap information. Many of us will talk happily for hours about the best route to a particular place, or how to solve a bicycle maintenance problem.

At the moment TalkJesus has more men who are active than women, so the culture skews a bit to sharing and correcting information. That can look like you're being put down if you're on the receiving end, but it may well be written in good faith.

There are times when the posts get snappy and I'll tempered, or people are out to prove they're right at any cost. I think that's not acceptable.

You make a fine point Hekuran. When people read what is written here,the writer does not wish to come across as controlling! People want, and demand options! Not judgement.Also we must also remember this,we all have bad days,and so when I read anything on here,I do not wish to take it as an attack,( even though it may mean to be one!! LOL Phil 4:7-9).See our will is also involved in how we wish to receive something.Do not allow anyone to rob you of your peace!!! Again fine point made!

This is a fair and honest answer. I can accept that, and I 95% of the time can back it up with scripture, and the other 5% is knowing things that I was born knowing pretty much but they relate to future events that never made sense to me my whole life because they were not humanly possible but with technology advancing it ( within the past 3 years) has totally become possible and it freaks me out but that's a whole nother thang!
It coincides with Daniels dream regarding the terrifying beast made of metal.
But I just wonder why people cannot answer without being rude about stuff or sarcastic. To me there is no place or reason for that amongst Christians regarding anything! There should be a tone of respect and loving correction if someone is incorrect but no ridicule or demeaning since we should all be deserving of the benefit of the doubt and allow someone the personal space to find grace.

Ok well on that note what would you tell someone who was reading the Book of Revelation but didn't understand it? To put it away and never read it again because they " either get it or they don't "? See I would not because by trying, it is like practicing. Eventually you will start catching that quarter every time. If they don't give up and keep reading it and reading it, in their own time( which is when God has chosen it for them) they will start to have things revealed to them and they will find enlightenment. We HAVE to try! That is all we can do against forces unseen. Try with everything we've got in us. Apply everything we believe and know to be true, and have faith that we are never alone and strive to be holy. If you have ever sinned when you didn't mean to( and we all have) what can we do? Sure we can make sure it doesn't happen again until the devil ups his game and comes at you from a totally new unseen approach. One thing we cannot say is that the devil is an idiot. His knowledge far surpasses that of ours in human terms but he might lack common sense because even we would never challenge God the way he did and think we could win. Then again we were not given the power he was so...but most of us would have loved to have been an Archangel to serve God! How could lucifer blow that chance? Can you imagine?

'Try' can mean that you are a work-in-progress -- aiming for a goal beyond you current capacity.

I'm taking advantage of lockdown to learn the piano. I try to play scales, chords, melodies and at first they sounded horrible. Now I sound awkward. I'll keep trying and in 6 months I'll sound musical. I know I'll get there sooner or later.

If I never tried, I'd never work my way through inability to competence.

Understand Hekuran. Perhaps we can say endurance instead of try then? To see a great example of try to me in scripture rests here.( Matt 7:16-23) Did Jesus say to them at least you tried? All that matters is our end result,not how hard we tried in that effort.Your endurance playing piano continues until you reach where in your mind you see yourself at. So the only question is will you endure until you reach your end result?

How bad do you want to play well?? You do not try to endure, you will endure until you reach the goal you have set for yourself. Perhaps I believe this way because i served 2 tours in Vietnam in Special Forces,a soldier does not try,they do, or do not. Try to take this hill, or try to hold your position,would have resulted in my death. I understand the word try can mean many different things to many different people,but as for me I have no room for that word in my life.

Nor If either. But what if this happens or that happens,yea?? What if it does not?? What if, has killed many a dream many have had in there life,they blame it on others,they say it must be just bad luck? Instead of looking at the real problem!!!! THEMSELVES!!!! When this was reveled to me at a young age,I began to understand,that there is no excuse that holds water for our victory!!!( 1 Cor 15:57-58!!!)
