I want to focus only on the sins and why they upset God.
This is a difficult topic for many in the church to explain. These sins, if done by consenting adults, do not prick our conscience.
Most sexual sins, prick our conscience as they can be traced to noticeable pain.
Adultery - An emotional blow to a loving spouse. Can lead to suicidal thoughts.
Pedophilia - This level of abuse of a minor is guaranteed to get you the death penalty by every person on the planet with a working brain.
Rape - Unconsented sex with traceable coercion. Everyone on the planet with a working brain will agree on the death penalty or a very long sentence.
Beastiality - Anyone with a working brain will love animals and see this act as one so evil that the perpetrator be sentenced for rape.
Forcing a minor to have a sex change - I would not like to be the parent that will one day appear in court, having to explain why I forced my child to mutilate themselves. Imagine that. Everyone on the planet with a working brain will agree that this is child mutilation and warrants a severe punishment / sentence. If it is an adult over 21, then you fall into the same bracket as homosexuals and lesbians, not committing a sin that hurts anyone.
Now, according to scripture, the above sins and the sin of homosexuality / lesbianism by a Jew living under the law would result in their death penalty.
Lev 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
Disclaimer - ONLY God can enforce this punishment. No Christian on the planet should sentence any gay person to prison or be guilty of any discrimination. There is no noticeable 'crime'. This is why we need to consider why it is that God, does not agree with us.

Ok, with all that out the way, let's consider why God does see this as evil and a 'great' evil.
I believe we find God's wisdom in these three scriptures.
Gen 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
Mark 10:6-9 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
Rom 1:26-28 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
Isolating the underlined in these passages we clearly see the two issues God has with this sin.
1. Be fruitful and multiply, therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife
God's plan for mankind from day 1, was for them to populate the earth through sexual relations between a man and woman / husband and wife.
2. Dishonorable passions, contrary to nature, gave up natural relations with women
These lines make clear the fact that homosexuality is considered an unnatural passion. Going against the purpose for which God made you. IE God made you a male, to be a male. A female, to be a female. It is thus clearly a sin of lust.
Conclusion:
It is clear that you are pulling the middle finger to your 'Creator' when you choose to go against the natural purpose for which you were created. Not giving in to God's plan for your life is a rebellion to Him. One that upsets Him 10/10. As such, unless you are an atheist, you may have a hard to impossible time working out your salvation in fear and trembling before God.
Phil 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
