Why is the remission of sins different between Gentiles & Jews when there is only one gospel?
Behold how plainly it is written about how the Gentiles were to receive their remission of sins by believing in Jesus Christ & they got the gift of the Holy Ghost as a result before they got water baptized in Jesus's name.
Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Now comes the convoluted verse of Acts 2:38 for the Jews at Pentecost whereby some believe water baptism is for the remission of sins and some believe repenting from all sins is for the remission of sins and some believe both in how to be saved in order to get the gift of the Holy Ghost as promised.
Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
The gospel is the same to the Jews as it is to the Gentiles.
When you read in context from verse 36 to verse 38 & 39, Peter was speaking to the very Jews that participated in crucifying Jesus Christ for why they were pricked in their hearts and had asked Peter for help for what they have done for not believing in Jesus Christ as God for why He was being crucified for blasphemy for.
Did you get that? I hope the Lord is enabling you to receive this. To repent for crucifying Jesus in unbelief is by believing in Him is how the Jews had received the remission of sins same as the Gentiles.
And water baptism has nothing to do with the Jews obtaining salvation when it was plainly written and spoken to the Gentiles that believing in Him is how they were to receive the remission of sins & the gift of the Holy Ghost came as a result way before water baptism.
Water baptism served as an ordinance for new believers in taking the first step in being His disciples to be publicly water baptized in His name stating their desire to follow Jesus Christ as His disciples.
Water baptism is not for obtaining salvation and neither is repenting from all sins in order for Jesus to save us is necessary for salvation, but to believe in Jesus Christ is what is necessary for salvation, because God is pleased to save those who believe the preaching of the cross.
1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God..... 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
Water baptism can serve as a public witness that these believers are trusting Jesus Christ as their personal Good Shepherd to help them to follow Him as His disciples by looking to Him daily in laying aside every weight & sin thus walking in the light in fellowship with the Father & the Son to bear fruit and that their joy may be full.
Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Discipleship from water baptism to repenting from sins daily is separate from salvation. We run that race because Jesus Christ is in us for how we can run that race when our confidence is in Him to finish His work in us to His glory.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:.... 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
So Peter's gospel plainly given to the Gentiles is really the same as the one he had given to the Jews that by believing in Jesus Christ is how one receives the remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Ghost.
