Why do so many people willingly serve God?
The answer is not fear, tradition, or an attempt to gain favor. We serve God because He is good.
If God were evil, no one would sincerely desire to worship Him. If He were a mixture of good and evil, serving Him would seem little more than self preservation or flattery toward a powerful being. But the God revealed in Scripture is not partly good. He is wholly good. He is "righteous in all His ways" (Psalm 145:17), "light, and in Him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5), His "mercy endureth for ever" (Psalm 136:1), He is impartial (Romans 2:11), and He will not pervert justice (Job 34:12). Humanity is profoundly privileged to live under the rule of an all powerful God whose character is perfectly good. He is truly worthy of our trust, praise, worship, and service.
It is important for Christians to grasp this truth, teach it, and remind one another of it often. Understanding that we serve a God who is only good helps bring perspective to life and should give us real motivation to fulfill our one great calling as His ambassadors, pleading with the world to be reconciled to Him. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
