who will also confirm you to the end, [that you may be] blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God [is] faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:8-9 NKJV
The Corinthian church displayed many positive spiritual attributes, but their problem seemed to be their tendency to look at their attributes and praise themselves rather than God. The result was division, arguments over which leader to follow and leveraging the more prominent spiritual gifts into positions of power. Paul reminded them of the only solution: take their focus off themselves and put it squarely on Jesus.
God is the source of life, love, and right behavior. Every good gift comes from Him. Our old nature defaults to taking credit for good things—even those that clearly come from God’s hand. He often teaches us that through our community at church.
The gift of God’s fellowship compels us to take a higher view of our blessings, especially when they come unexpectedly through the hands and faces of those we tend to undervalue. Jesus is the only rock star in His church, but being His roadie remains a remarkable journey full of personal growth, good gifts, and joyful camaraderie.
Prayer: Jesus, Your church is full of people who represent different aspects of who You are and what You want each of us to learn. Thank You for giving me a part to play.
