Becoming God's Friend (5)
'I have called you friends' John 15:15
On an all-day bricklayer's practical test, each student was given a drawing and a labourer who would prepare bricks and mortar for them as they built the item from the drawing supplied. One of the students appeared better than the others and started well whilst the others stood around waiting to see developments.
Once he was well on his way, the other students simply followed his design. (In an open workshop it was impossible to stop anyone from cheating). After several hours the inspired brickie stopped and looked at his drawing very carefully. Then he folded the drawing and kicked the project down! You could have heard a pin drop. They all needed help now, but no one knew what to do and so they all failed.
It's a good job life isn't like that. We are not left to our own devices with only each other as inspiration. We can be friends with God Himself and have His inspiration. In John 15: 9-10, Jesus says, 'I've loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you'll remain intimately at home in my love. That's what I've done - kept my Father's commands and made myself at home in His love' (TM).
When we are friends of God, we want to obey Him because we know His way is best. Rely on God for your inspiration, follow His way and stay wrapped up in His love.
