STAND STRONG (1)
'... Be it known ... that we will not ...' Daniel 3:18
The fire was as hot as if the devil himself had stoked the flames. Gold would melt into bullion tears in this heat. Why, even the sun would be eaten alive if fed to this hellish inferno, so what chance did the frail flesh of three young men have of survival? The king was a hard man. The whole nation had bowed down to his image. But that counted for nothing now - the only thing in the king's mind was these three rebel Jews. Hadn't he been clear enough? Either you boys bend your knee or the ovens will roast you alive. Now it was a case of following through on the threat.
If the king turned a blind eye to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, an uprising might well begin. But something supernatural occurred within the blaze. Not a single hair on a head became singed. Even skin pigment refused to tan. Our trio of heroes found an amazing truth - that not even the fires of hell can touch those who surrender to the living God.
We discover not only who they are but whose they are. What now? Ever sat too close to a fire or a bonfire? Remember back to how it felt, as vividly as you can. Now imagine the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and yourself stood alongside them.
What are the situations, people and pressures that you know day-to-day that would have you bow down to them? Thank God that He controls that which would want to control you.
