Naaman (2)
'... though Naaman was a mighty warrior, he suffered from leprosy.' 2 Kings 5:1
Did you know that Jesus mentioned Naaman once? When he was teaching people in the synagogue in his hometown Nazareth, 'Jesus said, '"... there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, but the only one healed was Naaman' (Luke 4:27). Jesus lets us in on something here ... now we know that Naaman's problem was unique to him. He had never seen or heard of God heal anyone of leprosy before.
It's always easier to believe God can do something you've seen Him do before; always easier to trust God when we know other people who have been through a similar thing and come through it. It gets really difficult when we think, 'no one really knows or understands what I'm going through; how can they? It's not happening to them, it's happening to me!' Naaman had to reach a point where he stopped focussing on his problem and started focussing on God.
God doesn't need anything to begin with in order to solve your problem; He made the whole world from nothing. Naaman became the only one in the whole country of Israel to be healed from leprosy. His life changed dramatically after that. Naaman was, 'a mighty man' but God made him even greater, because Naaman chose to trust him with his difficult situation. Look to God not your problem. Jesus said, 'In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
