Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, "The LORD [be] with you!" And they answered him, "The LORD bless you!" Ruth 2:4 NKJV
The Bible has much to say about the power of words spoken. Our words have the power to tear others down—or to build them up and bless them.
Consider Boaz, a wealthy, powerful man who lived in Bethlehem and who plays a key part in the biblical story of Ruth. When Boaz makes his first appearance in the story, his words make quite the impression on the reader. “The Lord be with you!” he greeted his field hands, who answered with a hearty “The Lord bless you!”
Boaz’s words to his workers give the impression that he loved the Lord and that he cared about the men who worked for him, and they also show us that positive words spoken can help a man to have a great influence for the Lord.
Just look at how Boaz’s workers responded to his greeting!
Do you want to bless, build up, and encourage others? Do you want to give yourself an “in” so you can introduce someone to Jesus? Start by going out of your way to speak words of blessing, especially to those who desperately need to hear them.
Prayer: Father, I want to be like Boaz and always make a great impression—for You. May my words and actions always encourage and bless everyone You bring into my life—even for a fleeting moment.
