1Tim 5:8; But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

A person who hasn't accepted Jesus, a person who doesn't believer in God... is an unbeliever. The consequences for this are pretty high.

Rev 20:15; And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Could anything be worse than being a unbeliever? The verse above says there is. The connotation here is, they are a believer. They believe in Jesus ( or at least believe they do )
but by their actions they deny the faith, and they are ... "worse".. than an unbeliever.

Faith without works is dead. They have fake faith.

I found it interesting that it says worse then an unbeliever. Another scripture that comes to mind is 1 Cor 5. Sin of incest, a sin not even the pagans commit.

A man who does not try his utmost to provide for his family is committing a mortal sin. His dependents could starve, become victims of crimes, be without shelter.

Nobody in heaven will want this person as a neighbor. Certainly not a Christian. You cannot truly devote your life to Christ and then watch your family go hungry.

'But if any provide not for his own,
and s'pecially for those of his own house,
he hath denied the faith,
and is worse than an infidel.'

Hello @B-A-C,

Paul was very careful in his own life and witness, that He walked worthy of the hope that was within him: that in no way would he live in a manner that would bring either His ministry into distribute; or prevent the gospel message that he was called to make known from being received.

An unbeliever who did not provide for his own household, though having nothing to prevent him from doing so other than his own laziness, or disregard for their welfare, would be looked upon contemptuously by society generally, but if he does so, while also professing to be a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, it brings shame upon not only himself, and his own family, but on the gospel message he was professing to have believed, and most importantly upon the God of all grace from Whom that message had come, and do despite to the honour of the One Who had given His life to make his salvation possible. In that way, such a one was worse than an unbeliever, because of the effect his dishonourable behaviour had. The effect being that the word of God is blasphemed. Which reminds me of Titus 2:4-5, in regard to the behaviour of young women who believe:-

That they may teach the young women
to be sober,
to love their husbands,
to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home,
good, obedient to their own husbands,
that the word of God be not blasphemed.'
(Tit 2:4-5)

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
