They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the LORD, over the grain, the wine, and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall be like a watered garden, and they shall languish no more. Jeremiah 31:12 ESV

Zion is one of the seven hills on which Jerusalem is built. At one point in Israel’s history, David took it from the Jebusites (2 Samuel 5:6-7) and it became known as the city of David. In today’s verse, Jeremiah is prophesying about a time when God’s people would come to the height of Zion and sing while exhibiting radiance over the goodness of the Lord.

You’ve probably seen the articles about the trend toward men not singing in worship services anymore. Many reasons are cited, including a simple lack of fervor in Christian men, a modern tradition of songs that are more feminine in nature, and the songs’ keys being too high. Don’t succumb to these excuses. Worship with all your heart and all your lungs.

The New Testament equates Zion to the church (1 Peter 2:1-6) and even to heaven (Revelation 14:1). How can the Christian man do anything but sing and exhibit radiance over what Jesus has done for him?

Prayer: Lord, may I always worship You exuberantly, for You are worthy!
