Worshipping God

The greatest truth of God is that He is worthy of our worship, and the deepest truth about ourselves is that we have been created to worship Him. When we actually do this, we find the real and eternal end, or telos, of our existence. Why is it that so many people are hard, cold, loveless, fearful, introverted, sad, scared, empty, angry, violent, cunning, self-centred, self-consumed? The bottom line is that they have never really worshipped God. They have never bowed to Him, submitted to Him, seen Him in His glory and love, and risen up to praise Him, to make joyful noises and shouts before Him. They have never known this release, or if they have known it for a moment, they have refused to stay there, wedded to worship, dwelling in the presence and receiving the power of Almighty God granted to us through His Son in His Spirit.

As the end of this age draws near, the issues are increasingly clear. The battle lines are drawn. We either worship the living God, or we worship the devil with all his masks and disguises. But how shall we worship? Where will we learn to worship Him? The first answer is biblical. The psalms will teach us and reform our worship, if we will hear them. They will lead us to God-centred worship rather than human-centred aesthetics or theatrics. They will teach us that worship is surrender to the great King who reigns, and we will make that surrender. They will show us how to praise Him, recounting His character and His works, which make Him worthy of our praise and evoke our joy. We will also learn to wait upon Him, and to sit in the silence and listen to His voice. We will grow in the expectancy that we will hear His living word addressed to us. We will also learn to petition Him as our King, and expect to receive answers and see Him prove that He is the living God who is active in our midst once again. We will expect to see His salvation, healing, deliverance, peace and comfort as we hear His word and see His work. All of this will result in greater and greater surges of praise ascending to His throne, until that day when we are caught up to be with Him for ever.

Great thread sunshine307, as I was reading your post I was reminded of how A.W. Tozer would lay face down on a rug for hours in silent worship. And then I remembered this statement from brother Tozer.

"God wants us to worship Him. He doesn't need us, for He couldn't be a self-sufficient God and need anything or anybody, but He want's us. When Adam sinned it was not he who cried, "God, where art thou?" It was God who cried, "Adam, where art thou?"

Amen brother jiggyfly. What a humbling thought - that God doesn't need us, He wants us. The King of all kings and the Lord of all lords wants us. WOW. As God pursued Adam in the garden, how much more He pursues us today.

Amen sister, Praise the Lord, for He is worthy to be praised. King of all kings and Lord of all lords. Hallelujah.

"When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing His praise,
Than when we'd first begun."

"All of this will result in greater and greater surges of praise ascending to His throne, until that day when we are caught up to be with Him for ever"...Glory to God! Amen sunshine!

God has been impressing worship upon my heart so much lately...a worship that comes from a heart of knowing Him...of being enthralled with all that He is, and what He is capable of ...and want He still wants to do for His beloved creation...and the great pains He has taken to draw us back to Himself when we wandered away...we look at what He has created, and it is only a fleeting breath of how beautiful He is!

I think this is one of my favorite narratives in the whole OT...it allows us a glimpse of God not seen so much in any other passage...

"And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: (picture that ...the creator looking only to spend time in the cool of the day with his creation)

...and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden."

"And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where are you?"

God asks still, where are we? We still hide amoung the trees...only now we nail them together and call them houses and offices and churches .... ...and even the wood cries out to God in our stead...

1Ch 16:33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created!
Rev 4:11

Revelation15:2-4
I saw before me what seemed to be a crystal sea mixed with fire. And on it stood all the people who had been victorious over the beast and his statue and the number representing his name. They were all holding harps that God had given them. 3*And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:
“Great and marvelous are your actions,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations.*
4* Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come and worship before you,
for your righteous deeds have been revealed.”

Glory to God, I am being encouraged. A couple more posts and I might just blow this pop-sicle stand and go be with Yeshua forever!

Clap your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy. Psalm 47:1

O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:3

LOL!!!!!!!!! @ jiggy

Oh I want to see Him look upon His face, there to sing forever of His saving grace, on the streets of glory let me lift my voice, cares all past home at last, ever to rejoice! Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!

Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. I Peter 2:9

What more reason than this do we need to PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME?! AMEN!

Rev 5:11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing!

Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. AMEN!
