eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; Romans 2:7 NKJV
Relationships blindside us at times. A good one goes bad, or a hard one remains fruitless. It’s normal, and sometimes necessary, to count the cost and decide if you should stick with it or get out. In Romans 2, Paul was writing about the work we do in response to God’s saving grace through the gospel. God is paying attention to what we do as recipients of Christ’s gift of salvation—how we work out being made more like Jesus.
Paul’s point? Remember who you used to be, not to anchor yourself in guilt or shame, but so you won’t return to looking at others the way you used to, through judgmental eyes. No one leads a perfect life, and no one can. But anyone can receive the good news by grace through faith. Your part is persistence; don’t give up on what God can do.
When the people you’re invested in don’t respond to Jesus the way you want them to, take heart—God is still working, based on His bigger view of both your lives. His grace is enough for you and for them.
Prayer: God, my Father, Your grace means everything to me. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can do the work You have for me today. You never gave up on me; don’t let me give up on hard people.
