Would anyone appreciate a post on Christianity's history?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share something with you and seek your advice on where to post it. I have a plan for the first few months 2024 to study the history of Christianity. My intention is to delve into early papers, history books, and various other resources to gain a better understanding of Christianity's origins and the development of different denominations. I hope to write an analysis and compile factual information to strengthen my own faith and knowledge.

The reason behind this is the fact I might be changing churches in the near future, but before making a decision, I intend to explore all options briefly. I want to remain neutral throughout this research process, only focusing on providing information about faith, the establishment of churches, and related topics. Rest assured, I will utilize reliable sources and reference all the facts I present.

If anyone feels that this post should not be shared, I will still continue with my research, but won't publish it on TJ. However, if you believe such a post would be valuable to the community, I would greatly appreciate your feedback and suggestions on where it should be shared.

Interesting project. Last year I read The Patient Ferment of the Early Church by Alan Kreider. Lots of scholarly research distilled into a very readable and inspiring book. I'd highly recommend including it in your research.

As Brother Hekuran said, "Interesting project." and may I add a good one. The strength of your own faith in Christ Jesus will serve you well. Of course, with that comes the knowledge that you'll not find that perfect church outside of the one that every believer already belongs to. So, know that you will find failings in them all. Some will be strong in theology and study of God's Word, while others will be strong in the Works aspect in helping others. While others will be organized and run well, and others not so much. However, just because in your research in the area of denominationalism may find faults, it does not necessarily mean that the individual churches of said denominations will have them as well. You might very well find that the denomination you pick out to attend looks good, but like my previous sentence, just the opposite will happen.

By the way why are you leaving behind the church you are currently attending?

I have found that a lot of research can be beneficial, but wherever you find yourself, ultimately the Holy Spirit guidance is what will allow for the greatest fruit growth in one's life.

I do not believe I am leaving my church behind, it will always be close to my heart. If I become Roman Catholic, many denominations such as Anglican will still allow me to have communion, so I can still participate. However, I will also be able to go to mass and take the sacrament. In essence, I can be both. A practicing catholic with some anglican views. I was raised in that church; however, I went to a Catholic school when I was 11-15. I believe in purgatory and other Roman Catholic beliefs. I used to go on trips with the school and come home feeling light, lifted, and brighter. It's hard to explain, so it could be the case that these good memories and positive influences stayed with me. So, every time I attend a Catholic church and pray, I have similar feelings.

On the other hand, I want to do this project for more knowledge and logic, not just the way it 'feels' due to my positive times in the Catholic school. I want to explore all denominations more logically and figure out my overall perspective. Two years ago, I thought I could be Orthodox Catholic; however, my perception has changed significantly.

Also, I have moved to another country where the Anglican church does not exist. I only ever liked the church I was raised in, and there are many videos on communion, but they are rather different from my church. Every time I go to a different catholic church, I still like it. It is a little too detailed for me though. I prefer the Anglican stripped back approach.

For now, even though converting is something I wish to do, I will be Anglican, with some catholic beliefs and practicing. If I was to become catholic, I would be a Catholic with some Anglican beliefs.

: Certain denominations may take positions on social and political issues that some individuals find fault with, such as views on LGBTQ+ rights and so on

Their are many more reasons for this to be the case however I am just interested in learning, gaining knowledge and researching. It is an interest in mine and I wish to understand more about others perceptions of their faith whilst also growing closer to the Lord.

I would be interested in any remnants of the Light of Jesus, Who is the light of the World, that could be seen in historic texts.

Cause it may give rise to questions:

Vain divisions would originate from the divider, I am not very interested in those.

I have for example received guidance from God about trinity and unity. It is a non issue, since there is no power struggle. Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all united, their will is the same. Things would be different if Jesus or the Holy Spirit God forbid could/ would be in rebellion. But they are not.

So that was a silly division, like if we were fighting about a tree that has three branches is one or three. We may just conclude that out of the tree trunk grew three branches, they are all united in one tree.

And a church that teaches God's Word. Be reading the Bible on your own.

Will you be expanding on Broadbents Short history ?of tThe Church ?.. which part of God’s Church body?

I rarely see two of the "church history" threads that agree with each other. The Protestant history does not agree with the Roman Catholic history which doesn't agree with the Orthodox history.
The History on Wikipedia is a complete mess. I have a set of books nearly 400 years old about this, and even they don't entirely agree with each other.

'Witnesses' never do agree NB the bible, but thinking on those lines that much of who jesus was made real to us .Just a thought.
