Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever”
__________

I don’t know about you, but I so immensely enjoy reading biographies of great leaders from the church’s past. One of those biographies is that of Albert Benjamin (A.B.) Simpson, who served our Lord Jesus Christ for over 100 years ago and is known for his mission zeal and as the founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA). The hymn I selected to share with you today is a song he wrote that I often sung earlier in my Christian life, and one that especially brings his name to mind, and is so much needed for our time in which we live. I especially like the line, “All may change, but Jesus never!” A. B. Simpson’s songs "became a powerful factor toward the success of the Christian and Missionary Alliancee, and were an inspiration to many people with his music.

He wrote hymns of instruction, hymns of challenge, hymns of testimony and of great longing. He wrote hymns of the Fourfold Gospel, hymns that called for a filling of the Holy Spirit, hymns of healing and of missions. He wrote hymns that delighted in the beauty of the person of Jesus Christ. He presented a call to holiness, urged people to replace the self-life with the Christ-life, showed the hopelessness of the lost world and encouraged believers to sing of the hope of Christ's return. He wrote hymns of Christ's sufficiency and the scope of His love, writing not merely for one denomination, nor for his own sphere of influence, but for the universal priesthood for all believers. He wrote of his vision, and continually directed attention to Christ. He wanted the faithful to sing about their faith and to sing heartily. So my brethren, I trust you will enjoy the words of this great hymn and I sincerely trust this song will bless you heart, mind and soul … enjoy!

O how sweet the glorious message simple faith may claim:
Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same.
Still He loves to save the sinful, heal the sick and lame,
Cheer the mourner, still the tempest, glory to His Name!

Refrain

Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same.
All may change, but Jesus never! Glory to His Name!
Glory to His Name! Glory to His Name!

He who pardoned erring Peter never need’st thou fear,
He who came to faithless Thomas all thy doubt will clear;
He who let the loved disciple on His bosom rest;
Bids thee still, with love as tender, lean upon His breast.

Refrain

He who ‘mid the raging billows walked upon the sea
Still can hush our wildest tempest, as on Galilee;
He who wept and prayed in anguish in Gethsemane
Drinks with us each cup of trembling, in our agony.

Refrain

As of old He walked to Emmaus, with them to abide,
So through all life’s way He walketh, ever near our side;
Soon again shall we behold Him, Hasten Lord the day!
But ‘twill still be” this same Jesus,” as He went away.

Refrain

Closing thoughts:

We who believe the Bible know that the almighty, eternal Creator has revealed Himself as a loving Father, and that He infinitely cares for each of us. And through His Son, Jesus Christ, He has shown Himself to be a Friend of Sinners (Matthew 11:19). When in faith anyone accepts the sin-atoning sacrifice of Jesus, that person receives the promise that he will never be forsaken by God (Hebrews 13:5). Oh, what a privilege to know that Jesus Christ is the same “Yesterday, Today, Forever”, for you see everything else may change, but Jesus never changes! Praise the Lord! Father, I thank You for the sweet glorious message that simple faith may claim; that yesterday, today and forever Jesus is still the same. For still He loves to save the sinful, heal the sick and lame. I rejoice in the fact that He cheers the mourner and stills the tempest. Glory to His name! Yesterday, today and forever Jesus is the same. Everything else changes but Jesus never, glory to His name!
