Yesterdays and Today's Truth - November 19, 2005
Did you know that the Bible says all men are born with the truth of God inside them?
"For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see His invisible qualities- his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God." Romans 1: 19-20
Unfortunately, many people reject God and instead seek truth in such things as fortune telling, crystal balls, Oujia boards, and other occult means that serve to further draw one away from God's awesome truth and wisdom.
"And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead." Romans 1: 21-22
There are also people who, rather than worship the Creator, worship the creation, making such things as the sun, moon, stars, trees and animals their god.
"And instead of worshipping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshipped idols made to look like mere people, or birds and animals and snakes." Romans 1:23
Surprisingly, the Bible verses above refer to a time long, long ago; yet man has not learned from the lessons of the past nor progressed to a place of better understanding. Many of us are still groping around in the dark.
My dear friends, just as a caring earthly father would not send his youngsters out of the house unprepared, so too does God, our heavenly Father care for us. He has provided us a way to know Him better so that we can commune with Him in the way we should. While we can learn much from reading the Bible, the first place to start is by calling out to Him, inviting God in to your heart and life. Then, just as you would not invite one of your relatives to stay in a dirty house, likewise, God cannot reside in a heart full of putrid sin.
Today is the day to reach for wisdom, to let go of the rotting effects of sin, and bring in the goodness and purity of God's merciful love.
