God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3:17

It's fun to speculate about Heaven. What will we do? What will a life without pain and fear be like? Will Heaven's streets really be gold or is that just a biblical metaphor?
But what about life in the other place? That's not a pleasant topic. Theologians speculate and debate what hell will be like (e.g., “Is it a real location—or just a metaphysical state?” “Is it really hot there—or is that just a metaphor?”).

Like Heaven, hell is a mystery to us. But two things are certain. First, hell is something separated from God's love, from His grace. Second, hell's gates are shut from the inside . The Bible makes it clear that God calls out to us, urging us to come to Him. God's Word assures us that He doesn't want anyone to perish.

So, the next time you're on your way to an earthly destination—work, home, the movies—take some time to consider your ultimate destination. Do you want to spend the afterlife basking in God's love and mercy? Or filled with the regret and anguish that come from rejecting His love and mercy? Eternity is a long time to spend separated from the One who loves you more than anyone in the university. Choose wisely. Your choice makes a world of difference.

I think that the most frightening picture of hell was drawn by Jesus in the parable of the rich man and the beggar in Luke 16. The parable's language is quite graphic. It matters little to me whether the pain described there is physical pain or spiritual pain. I just know that it is intense beyond description and I don't want any part of it.

The thing that troubles me most about this life is the inconsistency that comes from being human i.e. subjectivity to the law of time. I long to love God with a continual level of intensity, which doesn't wane or falter. Furthermore, I want to dwell forever in His presence without the distractions that life brings. Heaven for me would be constant exposure to the Lord, without this flesh, which causes me to draw away from time to time, wrapped up in my own selfish concerns!

Meanwhile, Hell would be the absence of God forever. Thus meaning the absence of hope. Imagine that. Utter hopelessness. That's what suicide is made of!

Love in Christ...

The crazy part of that story you mentioned is that it is not a parable. Jesus was telling a true story when He spoke of that because Lazarus was a real man and Jesus did not use names when He spoke in parables. The truth is, there is a place in the 3rd heaven ( which is where human souls go in death) where be those in heaven can see those in hell and it is separated by a river type barrier called 'Styx'. This is why they could see each other. Heaven and hell for us is located in the same plane of existence. The 3rd heaven. The Bible says

And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.’
Luke 16:26

This is in reference to that. This is not a parable.
