Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!" Luke 21:27-28 NLT
In Luke 21:5-24, Jesus talks to His followers about events that would take place prior to His second coming. Then, He makes the blessed promises found in today’s scripture verses.
Jesus is coming back. It has been two thousand years since He made that promise, and we’re still waiting. But Jesus’ promise to return is as sure and as dependable as it was when He first made it.
We don’t know when the things Jesus predicted, including His return, will come to pass. They could begin to happen in another century, or they could begin to happen tomorrow. In the meantime, we are to be watchful, hopeful…and ready.
Jesus died, but He was raised from the dead. He ascended back to heaven, but He’s coming back! We who follow Him can take heart in the wonderful truth that the day He returns will be our first day of eternity in God’s heavenly kingdom.
Prayer: Jesus, I take great encouragement in Your promise that You will return one day and finally and eternally redeem me and others who faithfully follow You in this life here on earth. May I always be ready for Your return, knowing that it could happen at any time. What a day that will be!
