God's purpose for creating Adam was to rule over the fish in the sea, birds in the sky and over every living creature on the ground:
Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
According to a well known TV evangelist, Adam was the original superman and had the ability to fly, otherwise he would not have been able to rule over the birds in the sky.
The only references to flight in Scripture I can find are Isaiah 60:8, Isaiah 40:31, Isaiah 31:5.
When God created the heavens and the earth, He did it entirely opposite to what could be termed 'normal' ... the way we're most accustomed to.
When a man decides to create something, he first designs a prototype and then builds the real thing.
But God did the complete opposite! God created the real thing first and then afterwards the prototype. He named the real thing 'heaven' and the prototype ;earth;.
So it is that that the visible world is a 'parable' of the invisible world ... a shadow ... a prototype of what is genuine reality.
This truth is exactly aligned with what Paul was stating when he wrote: "For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is His eternal power and divinity, has been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made ,,,

Rom 1:19-23[AV]).
When we were born anew, we became 'new creatures' ... literally: a new species. We no longer remain fixated on the shadows ... preoccupied with the prototype ,,, no longer having a citizenship in the visible world. Our minds and hearts became set on "things above" ... where our genuine reality exists. (For instance, Abraham was incapable of living from out of the invisible realities because he wasn't acquainted with the born-again experience and therefore remained attached to the 'prototype' and testified to it by living in tents).
It seems that the majority of us Christians fail to comprehend the purposes and intents of God throughout the creation drama of Genesis. In a word: the creation narrative is a 'parable' which gives insight and understanding of the unseen invisible world and man's intended position and place within it. Genesis is a 'parable' concerning the intended metamorphosis of man. First having an earthly existence a 'caterpillar' in the visible world while being instructed and trained to take up his intended position as a 'butterfly' in the invisible world ... the Kingdom of God.
So, when reading about man's authority and dominion in the visible world, we must understand that this is a parable of God's original purpose and intent ... that man would rule over all things ... both visible and invisible.
Man is not to be perceived as a 'superman'. Instead, he is urged to be born again ... to mature and develop as a spiritual man and taking up his rightful position at God's right hand.
After all, being 'born again' speaks about a glorious metamorphosis. All humans are all born and exist with the "image" of God imprinted to their beings. This permits us to exist in the visible world with the godly attributes of faith, hope, and love ... characteristics which all humans share from the heart of God Himself.
Yet, every man is also invited to be "changed into His likeness" ... to be re-created into the likeness of God through a process of transformation ... what we known as being 'born again' ... from a lowly caterpillar to a butterfly. Transformed ... a metamorphosis from a natural man *caterpillar' to a spiritual man, 'butterfly'.
Like the butterfly, we too live in two worlds simultaneously ... in the 'air' as well as on the earth ... in 'heavenly places' as well as earthly places. But just as the butterfly lives predominantly in the 'air', we too have a citizenship in heaven and no longer are relegated to a purely earthly existence.
