Is Jacob's stone Jesus ?

Genesis 28:18 says, "And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it."

Is this stone a picture of Christ and/or the believers or just a stone and nothing more?
 
The rock symbolized a level of uncomfort and then used for a place of worship shows that we regardless of filling comfort or being in the place we want to be in we should worship the Lord. I do not see it representing Jesus but more of a place of worship, he did this perhaps because it was in this place sleeping on this rock he saw a vision of heaven.
 
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,
21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God,
22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you."

That's interesting, I hadn't really thought about that.

Why would Jacob say something about the stone he set up being Gods house?

"And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head." Matt 8:20

Jacob did have a place to rest his head [even if it was a hard kind of pillow], but Jesus did not... at least not when Jesus was walking around planet earth 2000 years ago.

David saw the need of his Lord here:

"I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,

Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob." Psalm 132:4-5

God showed David how the need would be fulfilled here:

"For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it." Psalm 132:13-14

So what is Zion? Is it the hard stone that Jacob used for a pillow or will it be more comfortable than that?

"The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness." Lament 1:4

"Her filthiness is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself." Lament 1:9

But, then us came to men the Comforter and another Comforter:

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;" John 14:16

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26

What Head of ours needs a place to rest? "...the head of every man is Christ.." I Cor 11:3

"And he is the head of the body, the church:" Col 1:18

Remember Jesus, the man, had no place to lay his head... before he paid the price and before Comforter was given, but now?

Are we a comfortable pillow for the Lord's head or are we still a rough rock?

I'm glad you found it interesting. I guess I see the Bible as being more than a surface text. I think the Bible, which is the law of God, is written in parable form (Psalm 78:1-2). Clearly, people are described as stones in the Bible, with Jesus being 'the stone the builders rejected', and with the true believers being 'lively stones'. The true believers are God's house (Heb 3:6). Also, Rev 3:12 lets us know: "Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: andI will write upon him my new name.". Obviously, him that overcometh is either Jesus or the true believers or both, which is called a pillar here. Jacob set up the stone for a pillar in the verse we are studying and he even poured oil on it, which is a picture of the Holy Spirit. It seems that the stone must be a parable picture of God's house.

I agree,

I think there is definitely something to be had there. The Lord is willing and able to reveal himself to those who seek him. There is immeasurable depth and grace to be found in any chapter of the bible, if we are willing to have it revealed to us.
