Need help understanding something in the bible

So Bendito your saying you think the young fellow actually new that Jesus was God but because of his wealth he did not here the offer Jesus made to him, similar to why Jesus used parables so those with little faith had no clue to what he was saying even if they knew Jesus was God??

I think you've gotten my drift Dave...LOL You so smot! Keep in mind though...It's only my opinion.

first I am a true believer and study the bible and always look to greater under stand it, I have question for you guys on contradictions in the bible, and really its a small small technicality that really could be written off as a opinion of one man using the world to define good, and God's true word of what Good is but here is the question in the proverbs King David refers to 12-2 A good man obtains favor from the lord, how ever Jesus says in Mark 10-18 No one is good except God alone. Would love to here what you guys say about that, Praise Jesus
A good man in the Old Testament would have been a Godly man, a believer, but the "good" is still of God. No man can be Godly without the grace of God, which has always existed. Through his gift , he imparts goodness.
Truly coincides with the new Testament: " No one is good except God", just as in James 1: 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Hey Bendito
I do not find it hard to believe at all that the young man wanted it his own way. What I find hard to believe with what you said was that young man recognized the deity of Jesus, that's what I I find hard to believe, for if he did recognize the deity, I think he would of surely followed him and done as instructed his faith was to weak perhaps , but nobody can know for sure, we can only speculate. Of course this is only my thoughts I would love to here yours on the subject.

For me I cant comprehend any body coming across God and not submitting 100% to what he says if you know he is GOd. Their for I do not think the guy was 100% certain that Jesus was God.

Remember the purpose of the "law" was to show man he was a sinner. No one could ever keep the law. This young man said "he kept the commandments which Jesus mentioned", but he was not exactly telling the truth. I think Jesus knew this, but he did not say he was a liar. Jesus then tells this young man another thing to do, which I believe Jesus knew there was no way he could do it, in selling all his belonging, and giving to the poor, and then he would have treasure in Heaven. With out having a "vision" of something better in Heaven (treasure) than what we have right now, we will never let go of the stuff we posses in this life.

I find it interesting that when Jesus said,....

John 7:17 If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.

If this young man really believed that Jesus was God, and if he had made a "decision" first to do what ever Jesus said, he would have done it.
How many people want to hear what they must do, and then make a choice whether or not they will do it? It will not be given to them, unless they first make a decision they are going to do it when they hear it.

So What about the man upon whom God chooses not to bestow 'goodness'?

Let me answer only this last paragraph....I answered the rest above in a general way....And let me answer like this.....How many people have you seen, where God showed them the way they should go, choose to go another way? How many times in your Christian walk has God lead you one way but you chose to go another? (Answer this one only to yourself :D) It's not that we deliberately turn to disobedience but our desire to do something can sometimes overpower our understanding...

I threw this question in but nobody took the bait as far as I can see...."So What about the man upon whom God chooses not to bestow 'goodness"? The answer? There is no such man.

Brother, there is a big difference between a "believer" who "staggers" at the promise of God at some point in his life to a unbeliever who is looking for answers that he has already decided he is not going to do no matter what they are, because they like darkness rather than light. If we find our self's "faithless" in our walk at a certain point, God remains faithful to us because he can not deny himself as he lives in us. (2 Tim 2:13)

I am SO grateful for God's faithfulness! Even when we wander, forget Him of disobey..Aren't you?

If it was not for his mercy, and grace we would all be in great trouble, since it is still by grace we are saved. :)

True true.....Isn't it 'trying to do it our way, instead of His' when we wander? Taking our eyes off of Him and putting them on what we want.....

Yep, everything we do that is not of faith is sin, which is we doing it our way, and not God's.

I would and could not say what God does but,
Romans 9:15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion
Romans 9:18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

Well, my understanding is that I don't understand what real goodness is and that's ok. There is a world..........pun intended....difference between God's goodness and ours.

It is like we are given 25 cents everyday as Christians; 20 cents are spent daily doing and being as "Good" as you can. 5 cents He gives us room to be forgiven for things that really do not matter, as far as going to heaven. 2 cents of that 5 cents could be I f y and you can trust in God that He will see you through and through His guidance He adds His 2 cents, if you will..
We will never be perfect so stay at arms length from YOUR pedestal.

LOL I just shot that question out to get a rise from someone......Of course God bestows goodness on man...Jesus died so we could live with Him forever
He became sin so we could become the righteousness of God in Him. So God makes us the righteousness of God....I would definitely say that is Goodness

That's why God gives us HIS goodness dh.. He made you the righteousness of God in the anointing... and you ARE anointed. Never be perfect? Where did you get that idea? "If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness? That makes you perfect....till you slip again...Then you go "If we confess our sins...." and get perfect again.

have to pass on this one, others here know heaps more

Please do not base what your own mind knows but rather turn to God for understanding. Allow God to work through you. He want's to use you to work through you.

I have personally answered a question with my mouth & my voice but it was NOT based on my knowledge or was it from me. It was God speaking through me. As the words left my own mouth I myself learned of the answer. I had never read the scripture I was being asked about nor had I ever heard the scripture. So I KNEW it wasn't me that

I was being kinda rhetorical but hen talking about any Christian, including me, who thinks they have arrived in heaven ahead of time, LOL The Lord is ssssssssssssssssssssssoooooooooooo much more than we can ever be, but I am afraid some become haughty and SELF righteous. Ironically this one sin, after confessing it, (being haughty) can make you have a closer walk with Jesus. Ben you are precious (can I say that to a man, better not let my wife see this........teasing, of course?)

Lord know your name and your acknowledgement of him.
It is eerie how His words come to me and my mouth that refute the idea that I had just a second ago. I hide the word in my heart that I might not CONCIOUSLY sin against God.
Glad to meet you.
