What does it mean to have fellowship with Christ?

1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have “fellowship” one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

How does a person initially come to walk in the light of Christ, that they may have fellowship with Him and other believers? (1Jo. 1:9; Rom. 10:9, 10; Acts 16:30-33)

After a person becomes a believer in Christ, having fellowship, can they ever be without fellowship while “IN” Christ? “NO”

Why?

1Co 6:19 What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and “you are not your own?”

1Co 6:20 For “you are bought with a price”: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Christ said, He will never leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5).

God can hide Himself from man and disfellowship him, but man can never hide himself from God. However, God has promised He will never hide his face from His children ever again (Eze. 39:29); neither will He leave a believer. If God never leaves a believer, a believer can never be without fellowship with God (Psa. 139:7-12). A believer will always share in relationship (fellowship) with God as long as Christ abides in them.

What does fellowship mean?

1. To share in life with.

2. To have a relationship with.

Can a person that sins have fellowship in Christ? No!

Christ cleanses all believers and heals (Mar. 2:17; 1Pe. 2:24) “ALL” that comes through Him from “all” their sins, ONE TIME FOREVER, before they are place in His body (1Jo. 1:7, 9; Rev. 1:5; Heb. 9:15; 10:12, 14; Joh. 8:12; 12:46).

Can a person that sins have fellowship in Christ? No!

Seems to me if what you say is true we would not need to confess our sins and get forgiveness. Would we?

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Me once I was in darkness a drug addict a alcoholic, a sexually immoral person, now God has me hating all these sins I can say I have not been guilty of committing them is a very long time. But it did not happen over night I stumbled with them and would repent and ask forgiveness and fast when I gave into temptation and sinned. After some time passed things changed I hate these things and they are not even a temptation for me any longer (for the most part) . Now during that time period of stumbling Jesus was with me able to get me through the stumbling and get me back on track. And by no means am I sinless my very nature is selfishness compared to Jesus,

is this what you think??? that because we are forgiven from sin we dont sin?????????????? and that is wrong my freind. You simply cant argue with scripture and all wrong doing is sin.
1 John 5:17
All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.

The below scripture seems to say that we will not loose salvation but if we are doing wrong we will suffer loss that loss would have to be a loss of rewards.

1 Corinthians 3:12-15
Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward.

the below scripture talks about a reward for doing a certain thing, I herd people say reward in the bible are speaking of salvation, that is a gift not to get mixed up with rewards which we earn or loose. ,

Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Rewards are earned or loss depending on our works. Salvation is a gift not earned.

The what and why for me is

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light

1Jn 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

When a person first comes to Jesus Christ, they confess their sins as a Covenant confession (1Joh. 1:9); this allows them to enter into the covenant of Grace. This covenant confession is an acknowledgment that a person agrees with Christ that they are a sinner; this is why with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation (Rom. 10:9, 10). Once they acknowledge they are a sinner, Jesus forgives them of all sins forever (Heb. 10:12, 14); by redeeming them out of the “nature” of sin (Rom. 11:24; Col. 1:13; Gal. 3:13) and placing them into His body where there is no sin (1Jo. 3:5, 6). This is when a person becomes born again. This is when a person begins to walk in the light.

A born again believer can never remove themselves out of the light of the body of Christ at that point (Joh.10:18, 29), because they have been bought with a price; they are no longer their own (1Cor. 6:19, 20). On the day that God judges His Church, He will send His angels and they will gather out of God Kingdom all that offends and does lawlessness (Mat. 13:41). The lawless acts are actions of unfruitful works. These are works that could not develop in that believer the character of Christ (Eph. 4:22-24).

So the answer to your question Dave is no; we do not need to ask for forgiveness of sins after we accept Jesus as our Savior. We do, however, have to “repent” from any wrongful actions because they are not fruitful in our development into the character of Christ (Tit. 3:14; Rev. 3:3, 19) God has placed in our hands if we will do His will or not. Under the Law of Moses they were to a degree made to keep the covenant through the penalty of sin; but the penalty has been removed when the cause of the penalty was removed (Rom. 8:2).

Dave, I’m writing a post on 1John “1” to show that chapter is speaking to unbelievers and not believers. I will most likely add it to a post that we’ve been chatting on and that has many viewers.

This post is about 1John 1:

Who was John speaking to? (Gal. 2:7-9)

Verse 1: We know John was talking about Jesus Christ. John wrote the book of the Gospel of John.

Verse 2: The Jews (John’s Brethren) those who he was talking to did not know or have the understanding of Jesus Christ; this is why John was bearing witness (1Joh. 1:1) or proclaiming unto them Jesus Christ (John 20:19-23).

Verse 3: Again John was declaring and announcing to these Jews knowledge of Jesus Christ, that they may have “fellowship” with Him as well as God His Father. If a man does not have fellowship with the Son, they do not have fellowship with the Father (Joh. 14:6; 1Jo. 1:3; 2:22-24; 2Jo. 1:9).

Verse 4: John realizes his brethrens need the joy of The Lord; without Christ they have no joy (we are not talking about the joy of the world) (Joh. 16:20, 21; 17:13).

Verse 5: John begins to thoroughly explain to these Jews what the message is concerning this God and His Son Jesus whom they have not known. John teaches them that God is light and there is no darkness (sin) in Him at all. This is the second time John expresses declaring something unto these Jews (because they didn’t know). This was done because these listeners are not saved. This is John’s witness to get them born again.

Verse 6: John explains a man cannot say they have fellowship with God or His son and walk in darkness (sin); they’re lying; (John just said “verse 5,” there is no darkness (sin) in God at all); they are not doing or telling the truth.

Verse 7: John starts to reveal to these Jews what they need to do in order to have fellowship with God and His Son. If they walk in the light of Jesus Christ is light, they can have fellowship with God, His Son and with John (Joh. 8:12; 12:46). This is how their joy can be full; and the blood of Jesus will cleanse them of “all” their sins. A man cannot be in the body of Christ with sins (there is no sins in Jesus); this is why Jesus will cleanse a man first before placing them in His body.

Verse 8: If a man says they have no sin they’re deceiving themselves. A believer can say they have no sin without deceiving themselves. Jesus just told these Jews, He will cleanse them of “all” their sins. Once these Jews are cleansed they “can say” they have no sin. An unbeliever can never say they have no sin and they will be deceiving themselves because have not been cleansed (Heb. 10:11, 12, 14, 17, 18). Verse 7 does not specify a time of how long the cleansing agent last, but Hebrews 10 does.

Verse 9: John explains to these Jews the cleansing process whereby they can say, they have no sin. If they confess their sins God is faithful and just to forgive them of "all" their sins and cleanse them of "all" unrighteousness (1Jo. 1:7; Rom. 10:9, 10)

Verse 10: If a person says they have “not sinned,” (past tense for believer, present tense for unbelievers) they make God a liar and His word is not in them (Rom. 3:4; 3:23).

Are you in the flesh or are you in the Spirit according to scripture? (Rom. 8:9, 10)
Has Jesus Christ circumcised your fleshly body from sin? (Col. 2:11)
Has Jesus Christ Healed and cleansed you from all your sins? (1Pe. 2:24, 1Jo 1:7, 9)
Does scripture teach that the Just need no repentance from sin? (Luk. 15:7)

We are building our house with God's word. There are no scriptures that do not fit in our house as we build it on the New Tesatament word.

We do not throw out scriptures that we may not understand, we hold on to them and add them as God gives us the understanding. Every scripture I've used works for the topic of sin we are discussing.
